The lights are on
Mass Effect 3 was at the forefront of our minds as we here in the Game Informer office debated the greatest games of the year. Putting the bookend on one of the most influential series of this generation, BioWare's third chapter was a massive achievement that earned our highest praise. With one of the most controversial endings of all time (which we talked about in an episode of Spoiled!), the game gave the gaming industry a lot to discuss.
We crowned Mass Effect 3 as Game Informer's Game of the Year for 2012. Watch the video discussion between Joe Juba, Bryan Vore, Kim Wallace, and Jeff Marchiafava to find out why.

Definitely deserves it. This whole series should be named series of the decade. Fantastic writing, gameplay, and atmosphere come together to create a sci-fi epic on par with Star Wars. That was my mini-review. Ya like it?
Good choice! Though Guild Wars 2 is my game of the year, ME3 comes close second!
ME3 goty, ha!
Thanks for the laughs.
Wow.... Didnt see this coming. Definitely not my game of the year
thanks for the laugh - oh wait - you're serious - really????
GOTY. Thanks for sticking to your guns. I dream of a time when all games write a story that moves me half as much as ME did.
ME3 was a fantastic game until the last, like, 30 minutes. Then it was really, really terrible. BUT! That in no way detracts from the other stellar 25 hours of the campaign + side missions. I wouldn't call it GOTY, but I can understand why GI made that choice.
Personally, I happen to agree with Spike's VGAs, of all things. TWD was a phenomenal experience for me. I played each episode the second it came out, and the choices I had to make throughout the season still haunt me. No other game made me care as much for its characters than Telltale's did, and that truly is a commendable achievement. Journey's my runner-up, and a very, very close third place goes to the return of XCom.
I agree with Jeff saying that when he finished the game he enjoyed it, but was slightly disillusioned when he saw the other endings on youtube. Personally it didn't really upset me that it didn't show what happened to the races trapped by the Mass Relay destruction, I like that that was left open ended. I also liked that they brought back, in a less cluttered form, weapon mods from Mass Effect one. Definitely my game of the year.
the weakest part of me3 for me as a fan of the series is the plot. the first game was full of cool intriguing revelations. i was hoping me3 would be that way as well. but it wasnt. the writing was poor and the plot ended up being stupid
