Test Chamber – Mass Effect for PS3

The original Mass Effect finally became available on PS3 with release of the Mass Effect Trilogy earlier this month, and we check it out to see how it performs on Sony's console.

How does the first game stack up in retrospect? Watch as we reminisce about this landmark title, talk about Lunchlady Shepard, cringe to think about topless Garrus, and make fun of Kim for romancing Kaidan. Ugh.

Also, Spoiler warning: We discuss some major plot points from the whole series, so you're only safe if you've completed Mass Effect 3.

  • I was actually thinking about picking up the trilogy on ps3 (already beat all of them on 360) as an incentive to play through these games again. And of course support Bioware :)

  • I love this game so much. You PS3 guys are in for a real treat.

  • Best series of this console generation in my opinion.
  • Xbox players say this game hasn't aged well. From what I see this one seems more inspired than 2 and especially 3 in terms of style and characters.
  • I like how it's a new release for PS3 but it still gets a Test Chamber despite being years old. ^_^
  • we're playing it right now as this article is posted.. my gal is in the back working her way thru it all.. controls takes abit to get used to but thus far im ok with it.. we got the standalone download which took about 2 hrs to install more than happy we have a complete ME library.

i think mass effect is just about the only thing i'll support ea/bioware on.. that's until they screw up again which im sure will happen.

  • ME1 is the best. The Mako was awesome. The renegade and paragon skills were the best of the series... as skills. The story was the best. Exploring planets existed. I felt that I was in charge- unlike ME2/3 where I was only able to go where there was a pre-determined mission-the Devs helped out the poor casual gamer for the price of like $5,000,000. No ridiculous boss- ME2 is guilty. Loot. Awesome grenades. vast customization of character/armor/weapons and grenades for you AND your squad. - acidic bullets for your shotgun combined with the lift power. :) The lift power. The original crew. No multiplayer which still to this day, I believe prevented that extra time on the story (the only thing we cared about) of which would have made it better and perhaps would have prevented such a bad ending where the perfect ending requires more than a perfect story playthrough and all the other endings completely stripped away the feeling of you being shepard and you make the choices you want of which, to be fair, was a feeling that began deteriorating since the end of the almost perfect first game.
  • I'm just wondering, can you transfer saves from ME1 to ME2 and 3 for the PS3 version still? I was considering doing another run one day if I get the PS3 version of the first game, since I feel like I'm still in the dark on the events of the first game since the comic didn't give the most comprehensive list of events (nor did it allow for you to partake in many of the decisions of the first game).
  • That face...

  • I got this the day it came out... already beat ME1 twice, and am working on my Insanity playthrough. Such an awesome series... and the main reason that I'll probably never get through my backlog.
  • Hated it on 360. No clear route where to go next, tons of boring planets, crappy facial animations and dialogue.
  • I can finally play the first entry. I count Mass Effect 2 as my favorite game of the generation so this is a must buy for me.

  • first game was the best. 3rd had the best gameplay but the plot was complete ***.

  • Good memory of this game. Still think the second one is my favorite.

  • The first Mass Effect is still by far the best game I've ever played.
  • So looking forward to picking up the trilogy. These games look amazing.

  • Why does everyone hate on the Mako? Ok, admittedly it was a little slippery, but how many tanks do you know can fly and have unlimited ammo and shells?
  • I still miss the whole Star Trekish, exploring new worlds, exploration vibe of the first game. It completely disappeared in the later ones.
  • I really want to play this game again... **BRAAAHHHH**.

  • now that's a beautiful man :)
