Test Chamber: The War Z

A couple months ago we dove into DayZ on an episode of Test Chamber. The Arma II mod allows players to forage for food, water, guns, and other supplies while avoiding zombies and homicidal survivors. The War Z is an entirely separate PC game being developed and published by Hammerpoint Interactive which takes DayZ's formula, polishes it up, and adds in microtransactions. We're here to give you a look into the bleak world of The War Z.

Join Andrew Reiner, Adam Biessener, and myself as we endure the sad realities of a zombie apocalypse. Hidden gunmen take potshots, we brush up on our zombie-killing skills, and explore some landmarks in the Colorado mountainside.

You can buy your way into the alpha build here. Hammperpoint says the game should be content complete by the end of the year.

  • Am I the only one getting commercials before every video? Also WHY ARE THERE COMMERCIALS!
  • War Z (no "The," right?) looks terrible.  The gameplay looks atrocious, players can easily spawn camp, and the marketplace robs the game of its survival aspect.

  • Interesting I guess, but Arma's mod/Day Z looks a little better.

  • Having played this game from its ALPHA release date, I can tell you personally that it has become a PVP killfest with cheaters galore.  It is nothing more than a PK joyride with zombies as a nuisance.  If you see another player, you can bet he is going to try and kill you.  Most likely, you will never even see them.  Cheaters ABOUND.  Unfortunately the game offers absolutely no incentive NOT to kill each other, and as we all know, many immature gamers like to take advantage of these environments so that they can 'virtually' ruin other people's days.

Don't get me wrong, the environment is awesome, the idea is fantastic, but there is no actual CONTENT in the game yet and there is no reason for anyone to not kill you just to take your stuff and ruin your game.  DO NOT go into this game with the idea that it is PVE...it is NOT.  It is PURELY a PVP environment...whether that is what the developers intended or not.

  • I might try this game, but like Tim, I think the concept seems cool but it doesn't really seem that fun. Also a little weary of this game because almost all of the comments are about how the game is a scam or whatever, then there are people saying it's not so I really don't know what to believe.

  • Cool stuff. I love these Test Chambers

  • Don't know if its mentioned in the TC (ill be watching later) but their are really sketchy things happening at the company. PLEASE look it up as its been on Reddit for a week at least by now and DO NOT support this game at all. They plan on never finishing it after getting all the moneys.
  • Alright guys calm down calling this a scam game there is no whole facts u just cant believe one dude on the internet come on now, we are going to have to wait and see and do our research to see if this is true.

  • It's almost as if these kinds of games force you to pair up with people you know and can trust. Survival in a zombie-infested world one thing, but you either are super-lucky, enjoy punishment, or spend enough to outfit a character that will survive a decent amount of time.

  • Haha, Crush Hardbody? But serioulsy, this game looks alright, but I think DayZ looked better.

  • Ok... red flag... the games not completed, why should I pay to beta test it??? That's like paying for a car that I can't drive (reliably) yet... Beta's that want to be made into GOOD WORKING games are released for free or as limited demos... that is if they aren't a complete scam... Even EVE Dust 517 on PS3 which isn't finished gives you the option of buying power-ups and crap, but still allows you to play for free to help the development of the final product, which will still be free... there's nothing about this games development that doesn't scream SCAM to me... nothing at all...
  • I like the interface and everything in this one more but I think since DayZ is getting actual development now and not just as a mod I think in the end it will be better than this. Something about it struck my fancy more.

  • Interesting choice for a Test Chamber. The game looks pretty cool, but I've been hearing some weird things about this game and Hammerpoint. I guess I'll keep my eye on the game, but probably won't touch it.

  • Look fun and frustrating as hell.  A really cool spin on the zombie apocalypse.

  • this game is *** though played in the alpha god awful

  • Looks cool, but there are definitely some issues. Hopefully they get cleared up.

  • 20 minutes in "hey you got xp!"   There is a bright future for sandbox zombie games. This and day z seem like proof concept experiments; nothing more. Far cry 3 (big world with scattered outpost strongholds) with zombies.  :)

  • I watched my friend play the Arma 2 mod and I'm sad to say he hacked the snot out of it. Suprisingly enough we had found about 15 others who had done the same thing in about 20mins
  • This game looks just like the other one but just better graphics. I honestly can't see myself going hours like that then just dying. Spending real money too is just a waste. I like what the two games are doing with this kind of zombie survival genre but it just isn't to appealing to me. Good Test Chamber.

  • Sweeeeet.
