Test Chamber: The War Z

A couple months ago we dove into DayZ on an episode of Test Chamber. The Arma II mod allows players to forage for food, water, guns, and other supplies while avoiding zombies and homicidal survivors. The War Z is an entirely separate PC game being developed and published by Hammerpoint Interactive which takes DayZ's formula, polishes it up, and adds in microtransactions. We're here to give you a look into the bleak world of The War Z.

Join Andrew Reiner, Adam Biessener, and myself as we endure the sad realities of a zombie apocalypse. Hidden gunmen take potshots, we brush up on our zombie-killing skills, and explore some landmarks in the Colorado mountainside.

You can buy your way into the alpha build here. Hammperpoint says the game should be content complete by the end of the year.

  • I can't wait for something like this but times a hundred. Oh, and free like Day Z.

Edit: by free, I meant the mod, not the actual game. I wouldn't buy War Z, but if you already own ARMA II and the Operation Arrowhead, then Day Z is free.

Also, I meant an actual free MMO of this type of survival scenario (Zombie Apocalypse).
  • Isn't one of these games getting like TONS of crap for taking advantage of their customers and being a complete scam? I'm not sure whether it's Day Z or War Z but one of these has caused quite a commotion in their followers and Reddit has an uprising going on of some kind. I don't trust it

Edit: It's War Z that is the scam. I advise not getting suckered into it.
  • Anyone looking to buy this should read up on some of the shady stuff the developers are allegedly pulling. I haven't experienced it firsthand, but they apparently plan on pulling the plug immediately if they don't make XX amount of money before a certain date. They also apparently plan on keeping the game in perpetual beta to make refunds easier. Like I said, I don't know any of this stuff firsthand, I've just seen it around. But take time to do some research if you're interested in the game but concerned with shady business practices.
  • The War Z has been straight up stealing from DayZ. Including Rocket's (DayZ dev) label of "Foundation Build" for their alpha model. The list goes on and on, but I'm not sure how much I should list here. It has gotten to the point where Rocket is afraid to list information about the upcoming DayZ standalone, because The WarZ devs might take it as their own. I advise doing your homework on this game before you jump into it. While the idea sounds good, the developers are very shady.
  • Man, I didn't even know that there was even a playable version of the game up yet. Though, apparently everyone's hating on it.
  • I really like the look of this compared to day Z

  • I get bad vibes from this one. Real money to buy starting equipment? There have to be some crazy balance issues with that.

  • Day Z > War Z
  • I wanted to try it out, and I just get a really bad feeling about having to PAY for a game, that's a mod, that's not even finished, and with a plethora of hackers...while still being in alpha.
  • Isn't this game just supposed to be one big scam? Read a reddit post from one of this game's former moderators and it ensured me that I would never try this game, ever. Too many other great games to play anyways.
  • Wow, that's a terrible idea, letting people kill you, to take the items you paid real money for? The game will be filled with everybody just shooting other plays on sight, that doesn't sound fun at all. I don't think I need to get into why paying real money for something, then 100% losing it if you die is a bad idea as well. Imagine buying one of those silly hats in Team Fortress 2, then losing it after dying once, people would be furious.
  • Yup, this is terrible. Wait for the Day Z standalone.
  • Microtransactions... T.T

  • "Looks alot better than Day Z and is a more polished game." That's it I'm done with Game Informer.
  • The game is crap. It was originally "War Inc." until they *** devs saw how popular DayZ was becoming, then quickly re-branded it as War Z. It's loaded with hackers, they won't give refunds for their horrible game, and its just a ripoff.
  • Lol  " Or Day Z"  rofl, saying it casually, sounded like daisy.  Game looks terrible wit ha horrible concept of  being killed by a players and completely looted.  Made worse with the whole microtransactions

  • This game is pretty much a scam. By scam I mean, shady moderators, and developers who won't give you a refund even though the game is the complete opposite of what they promised. Seriously just go pay some $$$$ and get Arma 2 so you can get Day Z, or just wait for the standalone version.

  • I wouldn't buy it just because they stole Day Z's idea. I won't give this game company 1 cent. I think this game will be a flop and in my eyes is a blatant attempt to steal Dean Hall's original idea. Screw that, it really disgusts me how people can get away with stealing ideas like this. I mean the game concept, name, and everything is just way too similar. Boycott The War Z!!! I am also mad that game informer has the nerve to publish such an article. They should know better. Angry gamers unite!
  • as many videos iv seen of WarZ. this is mostly all i ever see. people killing other people. not much surviving at all. to me thats not what i want in a zombie survival game at all. like the genre is titled. i want a good "zombie" survival game, not a "Survivor" survivor game.
