Test Chamber – Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault

The newest installment in Insomniac Games' long-running Ratchet & Clank series released on PlayStation 3 this Tuesday. Since we didn't receive the game until launch, our review is still a work in progress. Matt Helgeson joined me for an informative look at this game that takes some of the familiar elements of the series in new directions. The game incorporates tower defense elements and cooperative play into the manic bolt-collecting gameplay the series is known for. We explore all of these elements in this Test Chamber episode.

  • These games used to be some of my brother's favorites. It's really cool to see that they're willing to pump some fresh ideas into the series. Makes me yearn for the days when these kinds of adventure/platforming games were all over the place.
  • Ratchet and Clank is the only reason why i have a PS3 xP
  • Let me ask Insomniac something here real quick, You guys dont really care about this franchise anymore, do you?
  • I just realized that I've never actually played a Ratchet & Clank game. I'm sure that I'll get into this one because of the co-op.
  • Nice Test Chamber!  I've recently started the R&C Collection and I'm kicking myself for not playing them sooner!  This looks like a co-op blast.

I think we need to see more co-op test chambers, replays and perhaps a super replay.

  • I actually finished this game today. It is good, but it is a bit light on the content side. There are only 5 missions in single player and 3 levels in multiplayer. It was still a lot of fun, but if you have not picked up the older games or the Collection yet, you should get those before getting this one.
  • Bought this game yesterday, the single player is a little light, but the multiplayer is phenomenal and well worth the $20.

I'm glad Dan isn't reviewing this, his reviews lately have come off as a bit sensationalist.
  • I had no idea that this game was $20 with cross buy included.  Hell of a deal.  I'll be picking this up later tonight.

  • This is awesome. Now let's do a Crash Bandicott reboot!
  • When can we expect a review?
  • This TC was awesome.

  • We only get 15 minutes of Far Cry 3, but 30 minutes of this? Oh, GI
  • again with this stupid looking design

  • The Ratchet and Clank series is my favorite Sony exclusive. I wasn't all that fond of R&C All 4 One, but Full Frontal Assault seems promising!
  • I say forget Reiner's Ratchet & Clank model. Give us another triple A release in the vein of the excellent Future games like Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time. Those are some of my favorite games ever. I would take that game over just about anything else, besides maybe a new Jak and Daxter or Fallout 4. Don't give up on this series, Insomniac! Please!
  • Played the demo and hated it.  I want classic Ratchet and Clank back.

  • My body temperature spiked and I started gritting my teeth when I read, "The game incorporates tower defense elements". As soon as my brain figures out it is playing a tower defense game it flushes all of its serotonin out through my nose. The righteous table-flipping anger I would have experienced if I had purchased this game, without knowing its hideous true form, would have given me 2nd-degree burns.
  • Woot!
