Test Chamber - Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

Last year, four of us decided to do something super stupid and play Smash Bros. for thirty straight hours. With Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale's obvious similarities to that series, we decided to reassemble the world record-setting crew to see how Sony's version of the formula holds up.

Watch below to see Jeff Cork, Tim Turi, Ben Reeves, and myself pit Sony's biggest stars against each other.

  • Oh, yeah. The Smashed crew has been assembled again. ^_^
  • This game doesn't look very fun. I only played the beta once and didn't care for it at all..
  • It looks fun...but I just can't shake the 'its not as good as smash brothers' feeling.

  • This should have been less of SSB thing and more of Tekken Tag thing. With Tekkens graphics it would just look amazing to see Raiden against Kratos.

  • Some pretty crappy attitudes going on in this video, like you're deliberately trying not to enjoy yourselves.

~"Resistance and Killzone, two series that no one really gives a s*** about"

    Uh huh...

Translation: "We can't find any series faults to complain about, so we're just gonna hate on the whole thing"

The game isn't bad, as evidenced by Dan's review.
  • I couldn't tell who said it but they nailed exactly what i think the biggest problem with this game is: There's no sense of urgency.

  • I don't think its as cool for them to include the old PS guys, or obscure ones, because no one knows Toru(orwhatever that little cats name is...)...but a good amount of people know about Mr. Game and Watch.

This might be a better representation of the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA4_ZjssKH8
  • This game looks... okay. I definitely want to play it for the novelty, but for $60? No thanks. I'll wait for a price drop.
  • i preordered , but i didnt get it because of hurricane sandy :( even though i live in san diego ....
  • oh ya...... this is NOTHING like Smash Bros! lol

  • You guys are awesome but you b*tch a lot sometimes. This looked genuinely fun and all I hear is "wahh this, complain that". This game doesn't look perfect and Dan's review seemed really legit, but everyone watching this is well aware that it's similar to Super Smash Bros. That doesn't mean it has to play anything like it.
  • This game just looks boring compared to Smash Bros. Like Jeff said, there is no sense of urgency. You're not taking damage, you're just getting hit until someone uses their special. That just seems like a very poorly thought out mechanic. I bet the game does have some great moments and features, but why play a Smash Bros clone with crappy characters when you can play the real thing?
  • Well that was a disappointing look at the game. You guys really didnt show much enthusiasm at all. It's a great game and all the "Well it doesnt have as great a cast as Smash Bros" or "It's not as fun as Smash Bros" stuff is really annoying. Smash Bros is really fun but in some ways, All Stars is better. It's also a lot more fun when you actually learn the mechanics before you play it so that you wont be saying "O, I cant kill you by knocking you off?" or "Wait, what's a super?" or "How do I kill you?" Jeff said that there was no sense of urgency but I think it was because he didnt know how you're supposed to win. I think that if he would've known from the start that you have to to use your supers to get kills and you need the most kills to win, I think he would've felt better in regards to the urgency. But I played a lot of the beta and I played the retail game for a couple hrs so far and I love it. Most of the cast may not be well known but they have great attacks (Fat Princess is actually one of my favorite characters). I think that if people stop comparing this to Smash Bros, take it for what it is, and actually take the time to learn the mechanics and move sets, they'll like the game a lot more than you guys appeared to
  • haha! its fun.

  • This made me want to play Smash Bros.

  • What's with all the depression in this video? Christ..

  • I can't wait till Reiner gets back. I am completely sick and tired of the lack of energy in the Test Chambers without him. Also, this game is WAAAAAAAAAY better than these guys made it out to be.

EDIT: After watching the video, I'm sickened by their attitudes. Bias was dripping from every word out of EVERY person's mouth. I have seriously lost some respect for these guys, and not just because of how they treated the game.
  • Let me start by saying, I respect the GI Staff opinions and feel they usually get it right, but... In this case I have to disagree on a few points, one I've played every major console since the Sega Genesis (including Super Nintendo in that Generation) and I don't have the kind of die hard Nintendo nostalgia some of you (minus Tim who was a Genesis Child) have, & believe that Sony's Characters have their own type of appeal to a more mature audience. What Man doesn't have a Fantasy of being a Adventurer Man's Man like Nathan Drake, a Martial Arts expert like Heihachi, or just a bad a** like Kratos? I sure wouldn't want to be a Plumber or Silent Elf as a Fantasy personally. As for the game itself, I feel if you gave it a real chance it could be enjoyable and they had to differentiate between Smash Bros. somehow, but like you I'm not sold on the Supers being all that matters. That's my unbias outlook on it.
