The lights are on
Last week on Replay, the gang got into a heated argument that involved Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64, and 3D platforming in general. One of the titles that came up was Rare's Donkey Kong 64, which received decidedly mixed reactions upon its release. Thirteen years later, we decided to throw it into the Nintendo 64 to see how it holds up.
Watch below to see Tim Turi, Ben Hanson, Andrew Reiner, and myself continue our discussion about the era's platformers.

I played DK64 but never finished it. I haven't played the other Rare classics yet.
Donkey Kong 64 isn't that bad a game (that Blair Witch line really made me laugh).
I will say this though; neat look at Road Rash 64 though. The end there, where you just drove off into infinity (?) reminded me a ton of Left Field's Excitebike 64. It had that one mode; the endless Desert Run mode? It just procedurally generated the desert as you played. You could play and hit jumps literally forever. It was awesome. You should Replay, or Roulette, that game sometime. A 3DO Road Rash/N64 Excitebike 64 Replay would be a great episode!
I got my N64 when I was like 7. And this was my first game with it. It took me at least a year to get out of the tutorial part, just swinging around on vines, somehow missing the gate to get to the area you finished with. Not sure how I was that bad at games. Not fond memories, but memories nonetheless.
mixed? I've yet to meet anyone who played this game that didn't love it
This is one of my all-time favorite games. I want them to come out with a sequel or something it would be a lot of fun!
oh these replays always make me giggle
I played this game last week after i read this article right know. I spent two days playing this game, which was fun and draws you back from your childhood. I personally like DK64 one of my top ten video games in the N64.... I feel like playing it right know XD
i hated this game
There's a lot of monkey butt in this episode.
remember old game
love both this and banjo
Actually watched this Replay awhile back but on Youtube because I am enjoying being able to watch it on my TV with Xbl. I found this game to be very difficult when I was little. Watching you guys play it and continue on from the Banjo and Kazooie Replay kept me entertain while reminding me of how this game use to be. The only part I really liked was going into a certain place and being able to play the old Donkey Kong arcade game. Other then that this game was just really hard to play compared to other Rare games.
I'm not sure whats better banjo and kazooie, or donkey kong 64, but I do know this the old SNES donkey kong country were way better, then donkey kong 64.
