Video Preview: How Ni No Kuni's Story Begins

Celebrating our five under the radar games worth watching, we're taking today to look at the story in Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch. For those who don't know, Ni No Kuni is the collaboration between the famed Studio Ghibli and RPG developer extraordinaire, Level-5.

In the video below, video producer Ben Hanson and I watch the opening story moments together and discuss my early experience with the game. As expected, Studio Ghibli animations tantalize your eyes along the way. Also, we meet our protagonist Oliver and see what brings him into a new fantastical land.

We should warn you, this video contains spoilers for the first couple hours of the game.

  • Looks cool.

  • I love Studio ghibli's work. Truly inspirational. Even my two young daughters love their movies.
  • The game looks really great, your Meowjesty. This makes me wonder how well it would turn out if you made a Miyazaki film into a game. Arrietty would be pretty neat, I think.
  • I teared up. Yee. Although this poses a question. Considering that she's been dead since the beginning she would most likely be buried right? So if she did come back alive where would she come from????
  • This is one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen and so glad it is coming to North America.  Thank you Game Informer for championing it as I know I will be buying it when it releases.

  • The game looks fantastic, but the way "Ghibli" was being pronounced was getting on my nerves, ha ha. It isn't really a problem, though. I'm probably the only one who cares, or noticed anyway.

That screenshot should have been the Ni No Kuni version of the Gameinformer cover.

  • Just reserved and paid out this game yesterday. Can't wait to play!

  • Well, so far from this preview I have found many things I like; art style, the mashing of both worlds making it seem that this will end with him waking up (maybe), and cat kings that talk in puns.

  • I can't spoil this opening sequence for myself, the most anticipated game of all-time in my 26 years of gaming spanning multiple consoles from multiple makers. I will read some of the article from the magazine though. I really appreciate the articles on this game, GI. If it is under the radar, it shouldn't be. Studio Ghibli is like King Midas: Everything they touch turns to gold... except Goro ;)
  • Thanks GI for uploading, if i wasn't already too excited i would actually watch it but i'm trying to go dark on any and all spoilers/game play, day one purchase already for me :)

  • Anyone else the day before this comes out watch every Studio Ghibli film they own?

  • I don't have the heart to click on the video and spoil it for me.
  • My gosh, I love the art of Studio Ghibli. Can't wait to try this game out.

  • I like Studio Ghibli for their story, to hear that they'll only be doing the animation is a bit of a let down.
  • I didn't even watch the video. I can't wait for this game.

  • Looks really good. Looks like it'll be a pre-order day one purchase.
