The lights are on
A few months ago, a bitter argument broke out between Tim Turi, Ben Hanson, and myself. Mr. Turi had the audacity of claiming that Banjo Kazooie was a better game than Super Mario 64, and we spent far too much time yelling at each other about it. I wanted to reignite this discussion on Replay, which leads us to this week's episode.
Watch below to see Andrew Reiner and the three of us discuss Banjo Kazooie's place in history.
Email the author Dan Ryckert, or follow on Twitter, Google+, Facebook, and Game Informer.
LOVE this game!, the first game I ever finished when I was about... 9 or 10.
Man, these Stress Test segments are brutal!
If only they had showed the washing machine banjo...
This was one of the best replays! Oh and Banjo Kazooie > SM64
Also, looks like this game is often transliterated as "Syobon action." Should really be "Shobon no akushon (i.e. action)," which basically means 'dejected action." ...seems about right. :)
cant wait for next weeks replay. i loved DK64. i actually just started playing again after this replay. ive never beaten it even though it came with my N64 (spoiler i sucked at games back then.)
both banjoo games, conker's bad fur day, and dk 64 r all better than super mario 64, and diddy kong racing is better than mario kart, and dk 64 is the best one.
I liked both Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64, having poured countless hours into both games back during my N64 days. I also really liked the Banjo sequel Banjo Tooie mainly because Mumbo was always my favorite character and you got to play as him in Tooie.
I'm still waiting for parts 2-82 in the super readplay. Come on Dan!!!!!!!
You should make that Dan Ryckert character play the entirety of Banjo-Kazooie for Super Replay.
Oh man, I thought he was going to say "better than DK64," in which I probably would have agreed. Unfortunately, Tim, you're completely wrong.
Mario 64 is a legend, but did not age well... I can play banjo to this day
Oh, that's convenient. Like I said, I think I agree with Tim. One of my most cherished games of all time. The music is fantastic, how the themes blend together between areas... the sheer variety of the levels, the exploration, the voices, the collecting, and of course the humor.
Poor Rare... RIP.
I hope you know you could have skipped the tutorial? Didn't look like Dan was paying attention. The tutorial is fine the first time you play, and you can skip it after. No big deal. And hell, do not say that stupid racing game is better than the real thing. Screw Microsoft, teasing us and turning it into a lego racing game.
Yeah, I think I like BK better, especially with Dan arguing against it. :p Dan, if you read the text you'd know what you're doing. It isn't any more vague than Mario's clues where you're supposed to figure out where to go from the screen and hover-over and it still rewards exploration.
And also, the Perfect Dark hate - I though that game was so much above Goldeneye - kinda like how BK is above Mario 64, ha ha ha!
Cat Mario Impossible, brilliant. I vaguely remember having played this before because of that flagpole. And actually, I remember the mushroom thing in 1-2. Damn, Dan is a genius at this. Ride the flag is our ride the scorpion.
This game was better than mario in my opinion but that camera didnt age well lol.
A SUPER REPLAY FOR CAT MARIO IMPOSSIBLE WOULD BE THE GREATEST SUPER REPLAY EVER!!!
