Replay – Banjo Kazooie

A few months ago, a bitter argument broke out between Tim Turi, Ben Hanson, and myself. Mr. Turi had the audacity of claiming that Banjo Kazooie was a better game than Super Mario 64, and we spent far too much time yelling at each other about it. I wanted to reignite this discussion on Replay, which leads us to this week's episode.

Watch below to see Andrew Reiner and the three of us discuss Banjo Kazooie's place in history.

  • I'm glad you guys finally got to it. Now go do Crash 3!
  • Sweet! Never actually seen this game in action, heard it's good.
  • I agree, I like both Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie more than Mario 64
  • They better not get stuck fighting the carrots.

    --edit--

Well, they actually got through most of Mumbo's Mountain and I'm looking forward to DK64 (don't think they'll get much done, though).

I was actually wanting Dan to play the Super Mario Forever mod for a Stress Test. Now they should do the final challenge in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
  • Turi's a fool!

Banjo Kazooie is very good, but Mario 64 is a legend. A true classic. You can play that now, over 15 years later, and it's still brilliant (and has a better camera than Epic Mickey). Super Mario 64 is amazing in every respect; has some of the most imaginative worlds, the most beautiful and catchy music and the most memorable moments of any video game in history. That's to say nothing of how revolutionary it was. It WAS 3D Gaming. Sure, games like Doom and Virtua Fighter came before it, and they had 3D assets, but Mario 64 was the first one to truly design a 3D world and make it work. There was before Mario 64, and there's after it, and that's... that's probably the biggest milestone in the video gaming industry since Pong/Space War created it.

Banjo Kazooie just can't compare. But it is very good and loads of fun.
  • BK is soo much better than Mario64.
  • Best Replay crew ever IMHO. And Mario64 is highly overrated, BK way better
  • Why don't we all just say Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64 are both fantastic games with their own great qualities and flaws, so we can leave it at that.
  • Awesome. Loved this game. I thought Mario 64 was the better of the two, but this game is definitely worth a look if you haven't played it.

  • For an episode of You're Doing it Wrong; you guys should have a Perfect Dark death match but only use the tranquilizer guns, it's insane. Also, the song playing during Cat Mario Impossible is from the Cheetahmen from Action 52.
  • I love a good replay

  • YES! BK is one the best N64 games ever. In my opinion BK is better than Mario 64 but both games are awesomee.

  • Banjo Kazooie is in my Top 5 All-Time list...Mario 64 isn't. I liked the NPC's a lot more in BK and the levels were more fun to me. The different things Mumbo could turn you into were pretty cool also. I
  • This game deserves a Super Replay! One of the best games of all time!

Edit: I love Super Mario 64 but Banjo Kazooie is better IMO
  • Mario 64 is better. The overworld was awesome. Boss fights. Its just awesome. I picked up Banjo and............ no feelings. Its just there.

  • Banjo Kazooie was an amazing title. Just from the range of attacks, and what you could do with the charater and the world made it better than Super Mario 64. Super Mario was amazing with how they presented the game and the levels you could go to, but it did not quite have the same feeling of achievement that Banjo did. Finding the honey combs laying around or having to go that extra mile to get one immediately made it better. Both are amazing titles, even if banjo copied Mario though.

  • I have never played this. Sad really

  • I absolutely loved this game! It's one of the few where I've actually completed everything in it :)

Also, I like Mario 64 better.
  • That Stress Test was amazing! I vote for a Cat Mario Impossible Super Replay! =D
  • They liked nuts and bolts more then the first one? o.o Are they joking??
