Exclusive Single-Player Footage From New Super Mario Bros. U

Nintendo has been making a big push to emphasize the multiplayer potential of the Wii U, but players are welcome to explore the Mushroom Kingdom on their own in New Super Mario Bros. U. Free from the shackles of his gangly brother Luigi and the Toads, Mario has nobody to push him off a ledge or refuse to pop his bubble in this newly released video. Watch the trailer below to see new environments, the mini mushroom, and some of Yoshi's new abilities in action.

  • Before I watch this video, a prediction: They'll be running to the right and jumping.
  • What are the differences this time around? The last decade or so for Nintendo has been a blur, all there games look the same.
  • I like that song that's playing in the trailer. I personally think it should be possible to play as Mario and set blocks.

  • Look cool!

  • Fantastic. I am so glad to see that Nintendo is changing things for this new game, it will be like no other Mario game before it.
  • Looks fantastic! Reading Dan's cover story of the game only makes NSMBU even more exciting to look forward to. I'll probably end up getting a Wii U for Christmas, so I'll definitely be picking this game up.
  • Did that make anybody else's inner child grin ear to ear?
  • Looks good, but I was expecting something along the lines of Super Mario Galaxy for the WiiU...
EDIT:The perfect launch lineup would have been a 3D Mario game and a 2D Metroid both in HD.

So looking forward to this. I didn't really see any differences between the new and the old graphics at first but after a bit you could see a few improvements like lighting.
  • I haven't been excited about as Mario game since Mario 64, this isn't breaking that streak.

  • Crisp, HD Mario......it's about time.
  • Its gonna be epic

  • I'd pay 60 U.S. dollars for this video game.

  • Why can't they make an "old" super mario brothers and leave the 2d games with 3d graphics to the amateurs (or at least just donkey kong country)? How am I the only one that sees how bad the gameplay is in these games?
  • I wish the shells gave Yoshi the special abilities that they did in Super Mario World.

  • HD + Mario = AWESOME!
  • I love the backgrounds. They're so much more dynamic and vibrant than in other 2D Mario games.
  • Sweet.

  • Looks just like Super Mario World on the SNES. That's not really a good thing or bad thing!

Nice Ben, thanks for sharing this, nobody can say that Nintendo doesn't make a mighty fun looking game.
