Seen At PAX 2012: Day One

I spent the day wandering around PAX Prime 2012. Oh, the sights I've seen. This collection of photos from my first day at the show focuses on the bombastic booths and hordes of gamers itching to play unreleased games. Check out 2K's rad Borderlands 2 statues, a dude getting a mohawk, and a viral Resident Evil ad.

Folks eagerly await the show to open to the public... as I sneak by the lines one a media/exhibitor-only escalator.

This guy is the first thing PAX attendees see upon entering the show. Nice boots.

Give these guys more castles to crash, already.

Telltale's booth recreates memorable locations from The Walking Dead game.

Oh man, stuff goes down at the dairy farm in The Walking Dead: Episode 2.

The beautiful protagonists of Borderlands 2.

Dedicated wastelanders waited in line for over two hours to play.

Someone drank all the beer...

Nice boots.

Assassin's Creed III had a huge presence at Ubisoft's booth.

Microsoft's banners perfectly obscures the PlayStation logo. Coincidence? You be the judge.

A title so long it wouldn't even fit in frame.

Sega.

More like Power of Too Many Paintbrushes. Sorry.

Monolith was giving away paper Gandolf hats to anyone who played Guardians of Middle-earth. None shall pass... a trashcan without throwing them out.

There was no dragon in this this dungeon. Actually, it was less of a dungeon and more of a PAX booth, now that I think of it.

This man refused to put his dog on a leash. We was just all like "...", and "that's a cat."

I thought the bathroom was a strange spot for this Resident Evil ad.

Ubisoft was offering free mohawks for booth attendees. Something I presume has to do with the Native American heritage of AC III's Connor.

A final shot of the show floor, with a weird junk-arch in the middle. Hmm.

Check back tomorrow for more shots from PAX 2012.

  • Drizzt looks really cool. I wish they'd make a movie about him.
  • looks like fun but i seriously hate lines....i get waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too grumpy...luckily i have GI for great coverage...

    I want more vids though

  • These setups and getups are AWESOME.

  • Watching the coverage coming out of PAX this year makes me want to go sometime just to play some of the games that attendees get early access to. PAX really seems like the most fun out of all the gaming-related conventions.
  • Splinter Cell?

  • i wish i could go to this... to bad im broke XD

  • The free mohawks from ubisoft is actually something for farcry 3, since vaas has one.
  • I love how all of the pictures have at least a full sentence caption except for Sega. It's just "Sega".
  • Gandolf? I think you mean Gandalf...
  • Cool statue of Drizzt. Man, I can't believe I still have Homeland on my bookshelf, the old cover too. It's all torn up but I just can't throw it out, it was that book that got me into the fantasy genre when I was so young. Also, Sega...eeyup, nothin' to say about 'em.
  • Hehe microsoft's posters cover part of playstation, Microsoft you rascals.

  • Keep an eye out Tim, Ubi will also be giving people tattoos in that booth at some point. Just keep your eyes peel for a crowd around that booth that refuses to move. 6 months after PAX east and Ubisoft is still giving people mohawks and stamping FC3 on the side of their head. That stunt has more than lost what little intrigue it had the last time around.

  • Wow, Micro$oft are d!cks!
  • I remember when I went to PAX. So fun. These pictures bring me back.

  • Ha I liked the resident evil add joke. They have one at Kroger too, its everywhere!

  • Why is there a Needle disposal box in the bathrooms of PAX, what exactly goes on there? Either they have way too many diabetics (I have nothing against diabetic-americans) going to the event or some illegal stuff is happening, and their not asking and don't want you to tell, but would like you to be responsible and properly discard your old needles.

  • MICROSOFT! HOW DARE YOU! - says Sony. We didn't know - says Microsoft.

I wish Sony had a booth with Tearaway demos. That'd be sweet. And LittleBigPlanet Vita Demos.

  • "I thought the bathroom was a strange spot for this resident evil ad" I laughed...
  • your dumb about the Mohawk thing. its for FarCry 3 they cut it back and paint a little design on the side that says FC3. they were doing it at PAX East this year.
