Spoiled! Final Fantasy VI

Spoiled! is our video series that has Game Informer editors discussing the ending to some of the biggest games around, and every once in a while we dive in and dissect a classic. Associate editor Tim Turi just finished his first playthrough of Final Fantasy VI and was eager to discuss the ending and other highlights with resident Final Fantasy VI expert and reviews editor Joe Juba. Watch the video to hear them discuss the world-changing events in the game, how the ending compares to Final Fantasy VII's, and whether or not a 3D remake would improve the game.

  • good times...loved that game

  • Final Fantasy VI.. probably the best in the series... so great

  • Gotta love these talks ;) You guys need do more of these. Plz
  • I've never played FF VI, but I almost teared up a bit watching that. It brought back memories of playing VII for the first time. Ah, good times. Also, the more ambiguous storytelling of VI as described here reminds me a lot of Dark Souls. Going off the beaten path and poring over myriad item descriptions to parse together the surprisingly deep story was a fantastic experience.
  • Best game ever.

  • My 2nd favorite Final Fantasy behind VII. IX is 3rd. Kefka is my most favorite villain though.
  • Currently playing through this...definitely an amazing opening.
  • Love this game so much, IMO tied with IV as best Final Fantasy in the series.

  • Every FF game has something about it that makes it great. It's really difficult to rank them in any kind of order because of that. Also because everyone has differing opinions, lol.

They are all just damn great, and yes, even the MMOs and XIII.
  • I'm looking forward to Spoiled: Daytona USA and Spoiled: DOOM II in the future. I think Tim Turi mentioned he was playing FFVI in every replay episode of the past 2+ months.
  • FF6 is the best in the series. By far.

  • im in the middle of ff4 and ff7.. i wish i had the time to complete them right now. ill also have to give 6 a go as well in the future, especially now that its on the wii store. i only played the original ff as a kid, and then 8 as a tweener. so i've got a lot of catching up to do.

i like spoiled, you should do them more often. also, you should briefly mention where you're filming at when you intro these vids. it would be nice to know what different parts of the city you're in, as ive never been to minn, and im sure theres a bunch of cool locations. plus, if your outside a bar, restaurant or coffee shop maybe the owner would give you a free drink or whatever for plugging them!
  • Great video. I've still got that game and love to pick it back up every once in a while.

  • Really liked the coffee shop style chat about a game. This is the type of conversation that most people (myself included) would like to have about games. Unfortunately, we aren't always able to, so it is good to see it emulated. Also, a mallrats reference in a talk about FF, very nice!
  • My fav FF game, what good times. Also I think the 16 bit games age better than old polygon based games.

  • I actually got the game and played through it for the first time after Tim mentioned his plan to play it. I'm certainly in the same boat, I can't think of a reason why this could be considered a bad game by any means. I don't know if I'd call it the most epic story I've ever seen in games... but I'd probably say it's the most endearing, considering the art style, character development and story progression. I'm definitely glad I didn't ignore this game.

So now I need to get and beat FF VII for PC.

UPDATE: Just remembered, I actually read a section on Wikipedia that there was a scene planned for VI involving Shadow and Strago at a bar where Shadow removes his mask and implicitly reveals he actually is Relm's father. Anybody else hear about that?
  • Shoot me in the foot, haven't finished this game yet :/

The ones I played were 6,7,8,10,11 and 12. 7,8 and 10 were the only ones I finished to completion, nearly finished 12
  • Best Game Ever Made.
