Debating The Bros And Cons Of The Army Of Two Series

There was a clear divide in the response to the unveiling of our cover story for Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel. There's a strong percentage of people that play game that look down their nose at the series, seeing it as a "dude-bro" festival of bullets with no redeeming value or creativity. The series also has defenders; we've seen hundreds of people complain about the decision to change protagonists this time around and applaud the games for their entertaining and action-packed co-op campaign. This division carries over into the Game Informer office as well. Check out the video below to see managing editor Matt Bertz, senior associate editor Jeff Cork, and associate editor Dan Ryckert debate the history and future of the Army of Two series.

  • I've never played either one. They looked kinda lame, though.
  • I enjoyed the first two games. With that said i dont remeber jack about the story. All i remember when i think about that game is the cooperative play. Im hopeful that with the new serious approach the game will be alot more memorable as far as story and dialogue goes.
  • Army of Two was always about playing with my friends, if you play through the campaign alone it's horrible but in co-op me and my friend would dude-bro all the way through, having a blast.

  • This video was clearly shot in front of a green screen. Everyone knows that Minnesota is never warm enough for people to sit outside in just shorts and a t-shirt.
  • "Bros and Cons..."..I cant believe that has ever been written, and sadly yet, it has.

Good video though. Hope the game is better than the first two....so much promise wasted.
  • I much preferred the comedic sense in the first game than the morality system in the second. Looks like I wont be picking this up. I'd rather not touch an EA product anyways.

Like if you're going to change a game's identity so much, Here is an idea: MAKE A NEW IP!
  • Bertz really dressed up for the ocassion.

  • Might want to change the name of this article to "Ignoring any pros, exaggerating the cons" :\ Talk about no love whatsoever.
  • I got to say, I hate that they're going for more seriousness for this series. The knuckleheaded comedy of the main characters has it's charm. You can make a better story with having a more somber tone. Also, I'm a little scared that this game is tackling the Mexican Cartels. You know, sense that worked out well for the last game that did it[sarcasum].
  • This was the cover story I was least excited for since I started subscribing to GI. Not a bad Issue. I just didn't care about Army of Two. Please give us the Watchdogs cover story we all want.
  • I'd rather have a new Kane & Lynch.
  • I hate AoT, but hopefully Devil's Cartel will be good.

  • Did I hear that a guy that made a fist-pumpin', chest-bumpin' shooter moved on to work on the ultra-deep, super-thinky Assassin's Creed 3?

  • Am i the only one who doesn't think the gears franchise is a dude bro franchise
  • Where is the video of them carrying furniture up to the roof?
  • Do you know why people who are on television or are speaking in public don't shake their feet constantly? Because it's irritating and distracting...next time you do a video like this, consider that.
  • Although I never played it, Matt Bertz brought up a good point. Why play this game when there were so many other games have nailed co-op games better? The whole over-the-top action, bromance relationship and lack luster story really steered e away from this game.

  • Please have an unlockable flamethrower in the third one
  • What I really want from the next Matt Bertz is for him to stop sucking.

I kid. But I do enjoy both Ao2 games and can't wait for the third.
