Test Chamber – Dust: An Elysian Tail

Xbox Live's Summer of Arcade comes to a close with Dust: An Elysian Tail. This 2D hack n' slash adventure combines exploration, fluid combat, and a gorgeous art style to create an intriguing mix of classic mechanics and new twists. Joe Juba reviewed Dust, and was kind enough to join Game Informer intern Jack Gardner and I for an in-depth session with this surprise hit. I'll definitely be playing Dust when I go home tonight.

  • looks good!

  • I played the trial of this game and I have to say, it was pretty damn fun. Only problem I noticed was that that tornado-spin-blade move in combination with the projectiles seemed extremely overpowered. I don't know for sure though, I only played like 10 minutes. =)
  • This game looks so good!

  • It really is a stunning game and finding out that such a small team developed it is shocking and inspiring.

  • This game NEEDS a PC release.

  • Just saw a Quick Look of this on Giant Bomb. It looks REALLY good!

Edit: Definitely playing this when I get home.
  • Haha, did Jason intentionally leave in the save file switch? Reiner says "And we're back," but this time you guys never left!

The game looks great, though, and I love Metroid/Castlevania-esque games like this.
  • Oh it looks good!

  • I really like the way this game looks and play, but it's story and charactrs seem positively corrosive. I suppose it's a moot point, I don't have a 360.

  • This is the best game that this years summer of arcade has to offer. I but it still doesn't beat Bastion. That game was almost too good. The thing about Dust though is that its actually pretty funny.. In that Saturday morning cartoon kinda way.. But still funny. I like it a lot, but I do agree with Joe when he spoke about the character models... They are pretty disappointing. You go from a super high impact fight or a beautiful area, just to see some npc, that looks like it was pulled straight out of some horrible flash video, walk around picking up invisible items off the ground. Other than that, its a great game.
  • Looks pretty sweet. Sadly, no Xbox for me...

  • Ugh, I want this game. Played the demo/trial last night & it was awesome. Probably going to buy it some time soon.

  • BRAMBLE BRAND!

    Loved that!

  • Fidget.... Is... ADORABLE!

  • "Not 'Tail' as in 'tale,' but 'Tail' as in an animal's butt." -Reiner I'm not sure I like the furry fetish (especially the fact that Fidget both looks and sounds like Tails from the later Sonic games *shudder*), but the game looks pretty awesome regardless and was made by one (extremely talented) person.
  • This game looks awesome, I'm totally going to buy this game.

I love that you guys brought in Jack, I think its really cool that the interns are getting in on the shows.

  • Dean Dodrill has worked on games before this. one of his first was the Jazz jackrabbit expansion pack and made the yellow rabbit add on charater...

Oh and he used to have a website with questionable images of the yellow rabbit from the jazz jackrabbit expansion pack that I can not detail the contents of on this website or show them in anyway .. Of course this was 2000 something and epic already laid him off so what do they care what he had on his website..

Oh and there is questionable images of female characters from this dust game before they was characters for this dust game that used to be on that website.

Do not look any of this up or anything called furry just know it exist.

You can do the math on what the pictures was like after looking at the screen shot.

OH and you have not seen the real fidget until you seen the concept art...
