Replay – Viewtiful Joe

Before game director Hideki Kamiya brought us Ōkami and Bayonetta, he designed a stylish 2D brawler for the GameCube called Viewtiful Joe. In a plot stolen from an Arnold Schwarzenegger film, Joe jumps into a movie in order to save his girlfriend.

Join Tim Turi, Andrew Reiner, Jim Reilly, and myself as we warp time in Viewtiful Joe and then warp our minds during the Replay Roulette.

  • I was just thinking about how awesome a Viewtiful Joe replay would be.

  • interesting episode indeed.  both games looked horrible to play.  jim is quite negative, though i can't say it detracted from the episode.

  • Viewtiful Joe feels too current to me. I still play this game. I know replay can include gamecube, xbox, and ps2, but sometimes I wish the cut off was one more gen back.

  • Mod

Jim sounds like he needs a nap.

I've never played Viewtiful Joe, but always wanted to. Maybe some day I can get my hands on a copy.

  • VJ looks great but it doesn't seem fun to me at all. I like how Reiner pretty much demanded that Tim play it all weekend.

  • THIS is the one of de best games I played

  • Bible.
  • I had always wanted a port of Viewtiful Joe in a combo pack, and am surprised it still hasn't come. Jim was a pretty big downer for most of the first Replay, think that segment could've been a lot better.

That Power Rangers game looked very dull, and I'm sorry for Tim having to play it. You guys need to do the Call of Cthulhu Super Replay!
  • Arrgghh. Viewtiful Joe is absolutely the best game out of the Capcom Five. Resident Evil 4 sucks. Resident Evil 5 is better than 4 and it still sucks. Only truly great Resident Evil games are 1 and 2. Viewtiful Joe is one of my top games to be released on Gamecube, right along with Windwaker, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, and finally Ikaruga (one of the best games of all time).
  • Wasn't Dead Phoenix speculated to be a Kid Icarus sequel.  That's what I kept hearing before it was ultimately canceled.  Also, screw Capcom for going back on their promise and porting these games to the PS2.  The better versions will always be on the Gamecube.

  • I'm agreeing with Tim and Reiner! Jim was WAY out of line!

  • YES! This game was fantastic, I loved the art style and the humor. Great pick for Replay guys.

  • You guys should find someone who doesn't suck at games to have the controller.

  • Viewtiful Joe is one of the few games I had on the Gamecube, and one that I barely played. I got to some crazy underwater laboratory level and couldn't progress. I still had a fun time with the game though.

    PS: Screw Jim Reilly

  • Jim's an ***.

  • Jim Reilly is a complete a**hole AND stupid? Most boringest? Really? Come on dude...

  • It just wasn't Jim's day xD

  • HD remake!

  • You guys should replay one of the Matrix games. Enter the Matrix is obviously the more popular, well=known one. And even though it got savaged at the time, I remember it being fun...albeit janky as heck. Awkward run animations, one of the most hilarious jump animations ever (every jump, even from a table to the floor, is done like they're leaping across buildings. It's incredibly silly). But the Matrix: Path of Neo was a really cool game that unfortunately got mostly ignored because of the failures of Enter the Matrix and the Matrix Online. Either one would make for a fun quick look; they're good and fun, but there are still things to laugh at.
