Balancing Starcraft And The Lessons For Heart Of The Swarm

On top of creating an entirely new campaign and new multiplayer units for Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, Blizzard has to monitor and tweak the heavily-played Wings of Liberty multiplayer balance. Starcraft II production director Chris Sigaty says that the team has learned a number of lessons from their experience with Wings of Liberty that they plan on implementing in Heart of the Swarm. Watch the video interview to learn what problems Blizzard will be addressing and how new tactics and strategies emerge and flow across the multiplayer landscape.

  • Protoss is Gimmicky.
Sorry to all who think I watch HuskyStarcraft but I don't. I don't find him entertaining or like his commentary. I watch HD and Day[9]
Also It wouldn't let me reply to you guys so I had to edit this post..
  • This guy is a cross between Chris D'Elia and Jeff Bridges.

  • This is going to be an ongoing issue with SC2 and a growing issue for all Esport games. You can either balance the game for the 1% or so of pro players or balance around the rest. The 20 min ball of death can be OP for the average player like myself but it has far more to do with my skill than it is game balance. As I get better at micro I do better against it. All in all I would say the race balance is very good, not perfect but good.
  • giggity

  • I wanna see this guy head bang

  • Soo mutch fun

  • lol. Brood War music for an SC2 video ftw
  • When was the last time Gameinformer had a PC exclusive cover issue? It's a authentic question, I don't know.
  • Wow.. this really reminds me how much I dislike competitive Starcraft.
  • All I know is that I played tons of the first SC and WC III but haven't had a PC good enough to play SC II yet. I finally got one this weekend but it had to be delivered. So within a few days I will be giving my life for Aiur again. Got alot of practice and catching up to do. Can't wait.
  • Any release date yet?

  • who cares (other than korea), blizzard is taking a nose-dive down the bioware hole and gone corporate. vote with your waller, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider etc
  • That guys hair was righteous.
  • I still feel sc2 feels a bit off compared to the first; I could never stop playing sc1, especially due to the amazing custom games.

Oh how I miss the BW music as well (the music is broken if I'm off listening to itunes over the in-game music).
  • Other than the Viper Abduct ability which can pull units which to me just seems to ruin the fun the expansion is looking great ^_^

  • If I were Blizzard I'd be more concerned about just making good games again rather than 'balance'. Their last few games, namely Diablo 3 and Cataclysm were average at best.
