What's Changing In Gears Of War: Judgment

Epic Games is hoping to shake things up a bit for Gears of War: Judgment. Co-developing the game with People Can Fly helps with that effort, but the team behind the game is stressing their new approach to storytelling, controls, and game design as well. We spoke to the studio's director of production Rod Fergusson about the design cues the prequel takes from first-person shooter and iOS games, the balance of betraying fans, and what this entry means for the next generation of Gears of War games. Watch the video below and let us know what you think of the new direction for the series in the comments section.

  • I hope Baird's not a d-bag in this game.
  • All I can say is that Gears of War with the Flailgun from Bulletstorm would be amazing. You can do that, right People Can Fly?
  • I absolutely adore gears its multiplayer has some of the most dedicated fans. Don't ruin that epic.... Oh yea and please remove the sawed-off and retro lancer.
  • I hope the story is darker and can explore the horrors of war like in gears 1 and 2. I hope MP is better with the weapon balancing and modes. Nonetheless i can not wait!!!

  • While the gameplay is fun, Gears' writing is terrible! I agree with what the writer of Dead Space 1-2 said, he said that Gears of War's writing is the worst in the industry!
  • You know, I love Gears but I'm not really excited for Judgment because it's just way too early for the next one and it sounds like they already plan/want to do another one after Judgment.
  • Can the Xbox quit doing prequels already, and sequels to prequels
  • Hopefully they can pay some writers to compliment the quality of the rest of the game, instead of just using steroids and swearing mad libs.
  • Not impressed with the control scheme change. He speaks about changing and trying new things, yet he goes against that when he says the new control scheme is similar to other FPS games. If every single developer did that, nothing new would get discovered. What if Bungie said that when they were making halo1 for the original xbox? FPS' wouldn't have the great control scheme that they do now. the control scheme for gears3 is awesome, they're just trying to appeal more to the casual market.... Which is not how you create awesome games.
  • Fun

  • Can't wait :D

  • It will be fine.

  • Sounds cool! Can't wait to try it out. :)

  • I can't wait for this game.
  • Hahahahahahahaha. No thx, I'll wait for Epic to put it on sale....2 months after launch.

  • Yea, let's keep f**king with Gears of War until it completely sucks. Oh, wait... too late.
  • That man has three different colors in his hair.

  • Really like where this is headed but I'm still a bit skeptical on the new MP.
