While NetherRealm previously produced Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Injustice: Gods Among Us marks the studio's first fighting game that focuses exclusively on the superheroes and supervillains of the DC universe. Lead designer John Edwards says that this kind of focus allows the team to bring the fighting game genre into new, extreme territory. Each character's special abilities and unique ways of interacting with the environment allow for scenarios that are outside the realm of possibility in a Mortal Kombat game.
