Creating The Story For The Elder Scrolls Online

Over the course of five core games, the Elder Scrolls series has accumulated enough lore to keep fans buried. The team behind The Elder Scrolls Online decided to wind back the clock in order to add to the series rich history. Through a combination of careful research, conversations with Bethesda Game Studios, and creative brainstorming, ZeniMax Online hopes to give fans of the series an thorough look at a tumultuous time in Tamriel's history. Game Informer's Ben Reeves sat down lead content designer Rich Lambert and creative director Paul Sage to talk about the story within the MMO and how it connects to Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.

  • Cant wait!

Diablo 3/Max Payne 3/Starhawk will have to hold me over for now.......

    I know tuff life.

Elder scrolls will be great! Release date?
  • First
  • I just want dragons...
  • looking forward for this.

  • I think this will be great, the one thing that is setting me back is how much will this cost monthly?
  • i just want robots!!!
  • Never thought I wouldn´t care about an elder scrolls game.
  • Sounds cool. I might be one of the few looking forward to this, but I think it really does sound great. If they can nail the feeling of having an epic, huge world that you can freely explore, this will be a fresh breath of air in the somewhat stagnant MMO market.

  • Well if theres one thing I'm NOT worried about, it's the story.

  • What I'm most worried about is that all the provinces that have not yet been made into TES games will built by non-bethesda people. I've just got a bad feeling about this. None of the concepts released have made me feel all that different about this.
  • story sounds great, I'm worried about the gameplay sinking this ship..

  • Oh, of course it's a video. ***. My computer is a piece of crap and can't play video for ***. That's the one thing that REALLY bugs me: The articles that contain videos don't contain a debriefing of the interview or whatever the video shows. I'd love it if you guys took a few minutes to do that, it'd be great.
  • http://tinyurl.com/goodb4biz ............... . .. . . . .
  • This reminds me, I've still gotta read my issue.

  • Derp

  • Epic plot twist: You were the bad guy, you had amnesia, and you killed your family.
  • I love The Elder Scrolls. However, whenever someone asked for an Elder Scrolls MMO, they wanted the engine too. Yes, yes, it's preposterous. That's why Bethesda should have waited for the technology to catch up. This game will almost literally be The Old Republic in The Elder Scrolls universe. I can only hope it will fare better, but I find myself not as excited as I should be. My money's going to Guild Wars 2.
  • Why do all games usually take place in a time of war? Why cant there be one game where your a person playing in a peaceful world wheres theres no fighting going on?
  • Great to see that another MMO is focusing on story, TOR attempted to but didn't reach the level I was expecting from all of the pre-release info

  • While I remain disappointed with some of the features they've decided to include with Elder Scrolls Online, I do find myself liking their approach to books. One of my favorite memories from Morrowind was going to a Dwemer ruin, I believe it was Nchuleft, and finding a book there about the ruin's history. It was so exciting and really helped to immerse me into the world. This is exactly the right way to go about making the world matter to the player.
