Replay – Fighting Force

Brawlers were in their prime back in the 16-bit era, but the genre seemed to stall a bit once the industry shifted to 3D gaming. Despite the lull, Eidos and Core attempted to emulate the beat-em-up heyday with the 3D Fighting Force. All of the genre standbys (eating food off the ground, beating up environmental objects, swarms of similarly-named baddies) were present, including co-op play.

Watch below to see Tim and I bash faces in while playing as Hawk and Smasher.

  • had an n64 when I was young, but never even heard of this. heard you guys mention it a few times during videos, though. Glad I get to see what I was missing.
  • O man, its in 3D!. Great replay.

  • Oh I used to play this with my friends, it was super fun

  • I want a parking lot taco

  • Loved that referee, the whole second half was AMAZING. I used to love Fighting Force when I was younger. Does not hold up at all.

  • I miss this game

  • I love a good replay

  • That Japanese wrestling game makes me want to play my old copies of the WCW games for the N64.
  • The piledriver dude was Masahiro Chono. He was in WCW on a few separate occasions, Dan. And the mist guy was Great Muto, used to fight Sting, remember? As a wrestling fan, you owe it to yourself to play Fire Pro Wrestling for the Dreamcast, Dan. It's one of the best, most in-depth games ever. And it's 2D! Also, please Replay Spider for PS1.
  • Adj. 1. balletic - characteristic of or resembling or suitable for ballet

  • I've played Fighting Force and never bought it, but I do remember liking it. Looking back at it now in this Replay, though, the framerate is horrible. It reminds me of Die Hard Arcade, only much worse.

Wrasslin'! Actually, I'm a big professional wrestling fan. Wrestling is big in Japan and Mexico, but also sort of big in the U.K., too. Japanese and Mexican wrestling (Mexican wrestling is lucha libre) tends to be a bit flashier than WWE or TNA over here. TNA started Ring Ka King in India, which is apparently really doing well over there.

As for wrestling games...No Mercy is extremely overrated. I hate the grappling system in that game--every move starts with a clinch, which is not how "real" wrestling works. WWF SmackDown 2 on PlayStation was much better and probably my favorite wrestling game of all time, although the series has really been coasting for the past few years. WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game--which was more of a fighter than a wrestling game--was a lot of fun, too.
  • Fine choice, I had some good times with Fighting Force.  Not exactly Streets of Rage, but still!

Part 2 kind of confused me, though.

  • I wish they weren't so bad! I think it holds up just fine!

  • Played the living hell out of this game back in the day lol. Looking forward to this Replay!
