The lights are on
In our most recent issue of Game Informer (with The Elder Scrolls MMO on the cover), I wrote a Classic GI piece that compared 16-bit games that feature the same names, but different gameplay. Most multiplatform games are nearly identical in 2012, but that wasn't always the case. In the days of Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, you'd sometimes find wholly different game experiences depending on which system you chose. Writing about these older titles made me interested in re-visiting them, so I grabbed fellow 16-bit enthusiast Tim Turi and headed down to the Replay room.
Watch below to see us cover numerous multiplatform games, from Aladdin to Mortal Kombat.

Well done, nicely researched.
Great video guys. Sorry, but I have to disagree and go with Aladdin SNES being the better/more faithful version. The SNES version plays more on Aladdin's acrobatics which he utilized in the film. Also, the SNES seems more comedic much like the movie.
Mortal Kombat on the SNES was superior. The only thing the Genesis version had was blood, but it sounded worse, the graphics were bad, and it had missing frames of animation.
I played the heck out of the SNES Shadowrun. Still do. The Genesis one had a better hacking minigame though, for sure. Looking forward to the reboot.
Huh, interesting segment. It's weird how the games look so different, even though they're the same!
at the time GO SEGA, no code needed for blood on MK unlike SNES...
My favorite feature of this month's issue. Thanks again Dan. I was a Genesis kid, and a huge fan of Mortal Kombat and Aladdin. The SNES version of MK just didn't cut the mustard without the blood and toned down fatalities, though Street Fighter was always superior on the SNES in the graphics and control department.
Thank you so much for playing Sunset Riders. My bother and I loved playing that game on the Super Nintendo growing up. Him and I have been going around and trying to find some of the games we played together as children, but neither one of us could remember the name of this particular game. I know it will probably cost me an arm and a leg to buy it, but at least now I know what I'm looking for, so thanks.
I loved the Jurassic Park genesis game as a kid!
You think the Genesis Jurassic Park is better than the SNES one?
You are high, Ryckert
The SNES Aladdin is way better. And more true to the film? When did you see Aladdin mowing down dudes with a sword? What movie were you watching lol. The Genesis version might as well been a TPS and it would have been just as close to the movie :P And yeah MK without the blood is weird, but it certainly played better on the SNES and the SNES controller was better. Your crazy if you think the Genesis version was better.
Wow! Sunset Riders. I've forgot this game. Thx for remember me GI (wipes tears)
Boy, way to be ignorant about Shadowrun there guys.
And the Genesis version was VASTLY superior to the SNES version.
Ok, this is new. Can't wait to watch!
