The Challenge Of Elder Scrolls Online: An Interview With The Creative Director

Paul Sage is working on his dream project. As a rabid fan of the Elder Scrolls series, Paul finally has a chance to help craft the land of Tamriel. The only downside is that every other fan of the series is eager to critique his work. Game Informer's Adam Biessener sat down with Paul Sage to talk about his past, how he plans to convert the Elder Scrolls that everybody knows and loves into an MMO, and how he plans on luring fans of the series into the competitive world of player versus player. To learn more about Paul's past MMO experience and how he got his start at Origin Systems working on the Ultima franchise, check out our bonus video here. Watch the video below and let us know what you would like to see make the cut in The Elder Scrolls online in the comment section below.

  • PENGUINS! or better yet enchating your horses to fly! they shall call me "santa claus the conquerer"
  • I think that I would prefer an MMORPG set in the Fallout universe instead.
  • Well, he certainly seems passionate enough.

  • Bummed out by the Ads. Can we get a skip feature or something?
  • Just by that video, I already love the guy.

  • Just seeing that he worked on Ultima makes me already like this guy. ^_^
  • I spent way to much time on Morrowind, so seeing a fellow fan create the Elders Scrolls MMO is a relief. I'm scared this will end up another MMO clone though. I wanna see some gameplay!

  • I don't get into MMO's very much so I'm a little biased, but I'd honestly rather they work on adding simple multiplayer.
  • 7:19 "daedric princes -- so much fun to hit that." rofl
  • A great, informative interview.

Also, I'm ever thankful for the lack of Hipsters within the sacred halls of Game Informer.

  • If this game was more based on UO than DAOC I would be more excited. To me TES is an open world sandbox like UO. Instead the game is a DAOC knockoff with TES lore added on.

I'm a long time TES fan whose played every game from the very beginning. This game is not developed by Bethesda and its made by a different company and a different development team. It doesnt have many of the features TES fans like and expect. Its derivative and reminds me of a spinoff of a tv show.
  • At least someone who is extremely passionate about The Elder Scrolls is making this. Seems like they have a lot of awesome ideas for this game. Can't wait.
  • If anyone is still wondering, The three playable factions have been confirmed. They are: the aldmeri dominion, consisting of the altmer, bosmer and kajhiit. the daggerfall covenant, consisting of orcs, bretons, and redguards. and the ebonheart pact, consisting of nords, dunmer, and argonians.
  • Whether or not this has a hotbar will make all the difference for me. I can't imagine a TES game where you constantly spam the number keys.
  • Dragon Mounts. That is all.
  • Despite not being the biggest PvP fan, I admit I find the whole three-faction constant-war setup to be intriguing. The different "covenants" that comprise of races that might not normally work with each other sounds especially interesting as, to me at least, it sounds like they're aiming to add a whole extra political layer onto the existing lore. I'm actually kinda excited now to see how this game turns out. I personally think it's way too early in the process to be skeptical even with all the leaked images and whatnot (I find it funny how so many people see those images, immediately assume that is how the final version of the game will look, and start decrying the game already).
  • Ready for some gameplay!!

  • Wow. I never realized how charismatic Todd Howard is... I'm not doubting this guy's professional competency, but he is just dull in front of a camera and promoting the game. Every interview I watched of Todd Howard on Skyrim I hung onto every sentence, but this guy I just hope that he finishes his point sooner. Hope we hear even more about the game soon.
  • Hopefully this game is released long after TOR has lost its edge.
