CosBlog # 76: Flemeth by Amazon Mandy

by Meagan Marie on May 04, 2012 at 11:00 AM

The devil is in the details when it comes to Dragon Age 2’s Flemeth, making Amazon Mandy’s complex wig styling, ornate crown, and elaborate bodice extremely impressive. Check out her gallery below!

Who: The Character
The character is Flemeth from the game Dragon Age 2. I did both the concept art version, and then the game version when it was released

Why: The Decision
I chose Flemeth because she's such a ***! Her voice, her movements, and also the fact that she's a fire-breathing dragon!! I also loved her character design for the second game. I love costumes with horns for some reason, I seem to be choosing more and more of them. I love strong women in armor for costumes a lot. She's just great all-around!

What: The Process
The costume took three months overall, I think. The bodice is vinyl, the armor is foam, and the prop is carved from wood.  The most difficult part was figuring out the horns, since hers appear to have the same consistency as her hair. The cost wasn't bad since I had a lot of fabric already, as well as a wig that would work. Foam is certainly cheap...I think buying all of the studs for the bodice was the worst part!

Where and When: The Debut
I first wore her to a convention in February 2011. I chose to wear her then because a very good friend was also wearing a costume from the same game, and we wanted to show them off them together. Also, the location of the convention was a gorgeous hotel, so it made for some pretty backgrounds. Sadly, at that point she wasn't quite done, and not quite what I wanted. I made a lot of adjustments before I wore her again for a shoot in the summer.

I mostly just post my stuff on my webpage, and only some of those photos end up at Deviantart.
