June Cover Revealed: The Elder Scrolls Online

Long rumored and much anticipated, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being unveiled in the June issue of Game Informer. In this month's cover story we journey across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between.

Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story – as well as a peek at the player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself.

Come back tomorrow morning for a brief teaser trailer from Zenimax Online and Bethesda Softworks, and later on in the afternoon for the first screenshot of the game. Over the course of the month, be sure to visit our Elder Scrolls Online hub, which will feature new exclusive content multiple times each week. You'll meet the three player factions, see video interviews with the creative leads, and much more.

The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled to come out in 2013 for both PC and Macintosh.

Furthermore, Matthew Kato explores the role of the Entertainment Software Association plays in the video game industry, Matt Miller discusses the rise of new business models in gaming, and Joe Juba chronicles the new form that the once-thought-dead adventure genre has evolved into.

  • I need this issue now! This will be the first MMO I will actually purchase and spend money to play monthly.

  • Its not made by bethesda? That means it will actually work properly!!!!
  • ah im skeptical. i simply find mmos as a whole have *** action and this will probably be no exception. and bethesda softworks is not the dev...

  • Well, I for one am MUCH more excited to hear about Fallout Online, and considering it was revealed years before Elder Scrolls Online, why the heck is THAT not the cover? I'm sure this will be amazing and epic, but I need a new dose of Fallout after New Vegas' buggy adventure ruined my experience (still can't beat the main story to this day thanks to story breaking glitch)

  • Guild wars will be great on this.

  • Yes! What we've wanted for such a long time! This is great!

  • This could be what turns me over to playing MMO's. If it plays similarly to Skyrim then I'm already sold. Being able to play an Elder Scrolls game with friends has been something I've wanted for years.
  • This is great news but only Bethesda can pull this off. Prove me wrong Zenimax Online.

  • I'm guessing this is way there were so many off limits areas in skyrim

  • Sweet as

  • Ya !! It's nice

  • Excellent news!  Guild Wars 2 and Blizzards next MMO 'Titan' are the only two MMOs I am interested in.  This makes 3.

For those worried about Zenimax Online as the developer, Bethesda will have a massive amount of input into this.  It is, after all, their golden goose, so I wouldn't be to worried about that at all.

  • To all the people (and there were plenty of them) that bashed Bethesda for wanting to protect the 'Scrolls' name.  I think you may well know why they were attempting to stop Mojang.  Scrolls vs The Elder Scrolls Online, I can certainly see why they pursued it.

  • You should have acted. It's already here. The Elder Scrolls told of its return. Its defeat at the Battlespire was merely a delay, Till the time after the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood, And the World Eater would return to the skies. But no one wanted to believe. Believe it even existed. And when the tragedy finally dawns, It dawns in Multiplayer. But there is one it fears. In the Dragon Tongue he is Kaal Vopogaan, Single Player.
  • Too much Elder Scrolls, I want some Fallout now.
  • WE NEED AN MMO ON THE CONSOLES. NOW. START WITH THIS. I WON'T ARGUE.

  • .... I love TES games, but a MMO? Don't ruin what makes these games great in the first place.
  • I don't mean to be offensive or rude, but why does this have to be the June issue's cover? Why can't it be another game? Also, why doesn't Gameinformer make more Nintendo games take the spotlight and be on the cover?
  • Because Nintendo sucks.
  • I hate MMOs... Don't turn Elder Scrolls into a MMO just like they turned KOTOR into one. As much as I love Elder Scrolls I hope this game fails hardcore and doesn't even get released.
