June Cover Revealed: The Elder Scrolls Online

Long rumored and much anticipated, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being unveiled in the June issue of Game Informer. In this month's cover story we journey across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between.

Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story – as well as a peek at the player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself.

Come back tomorrow morning for a brief teaser trailer from Zenimax Online and Bethesda Softworks, and later on in the afternoon for the first screenshot of the game. Over the course of the month, be sure to visit our Elder Scrolls Online hub, which will feature new exclusive content multiple times each week. You'll meet the three player factions, see video interviews with the creative leads, and much more.

The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled to come out in 2013 for both PC and Macintosh.

  • Wow. I'm shocked, I mean, I knew this was coming, but I can't believe it's the next cover. Pretty awesome GI, pretty awesome indeed.

  • I actually don't like the cover all that much, sorry GI. I liked last issue's better, but that's because I was in the feedback :D

  • AWESOME!!! Unless they charge a monthly fee. In which case, Guild Wars 2 will still be my mmo of choice. Guild Wars 2 seems hard to beat, even if TES online also decides to be subscription free.
  • By Azura I think I just *** myself.

  • I'm extremely unsure about this, I mean I love elder scrolls but this is a huge step for the series. First, it's not developed by Bethesda but rather their partner company Zenimax online, which is a company I know nothing about and isn't really credited for anything. Second, if by chance they screw this game up it could ruin elder scrolls good rep and possibly cause a lot of gamers to lose faith in the series. This game could really go either way, but as much as I'd like to see it succeed I'm a bit skeptical. It's also pretty difficult to judge an MMO before it comes out because it can look like the greatest thing since cream cheese and then fall short (shorta like SWOTR). Not to mention its going to have to compete with GW2. I guess we can only wait until it drops to know for sure.
  • Hours of Oblivion: 100

    Hours of Skyrim: 200

Hours of Elder Scrolls MMO: 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.99

  • Actually forget about this... not sure if I'm interested, either. A multiplayer Elder Scrolls could be cool in theory, but in practice I don't think it'll be too much different from the established MMO conventions--and yet will probably be very different from the typical Elder Scrolls setup.
  • Waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit....

Elder Scrolls.... Dark Age of Camelot PvP....

    Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!?!?!

    <feints>

  • SKOOMA CLAN!!!!

  • I think I am getting a headache...

  • wtf bethesda! only pc? just because its a mmo doesn't mean it has to be a pc exclusive i believe dc universe online proved that. Oh God now im gonna have to read 5 pages of awesome game that ill probably never get to play.
  • wow lot of views

    glad its pc though

with d3 coming on pc and coh 2 announced today future is great for pc

  • I don't know how much I'm looking forward to this. I have some worries. The Elder Scrolls is a series near and dear to my heart, and seeing it being taken out of the hands of Bethesda Game Studios is worrisome. Hopefully there won't be a repeat of New Vegas. Secondly, I'm not sure how I would acclimate to an MMO version. Pointing and clicking while in a permanent third person just doesn't quite fit the Elder Scrolls I'm used to- first person and right in the action. Lastly, I'm not sure that I've heard the concept behind it in the fiction, so hopefully it stays in line. On the positive side, though, I am very pleased it is for PC AND Macintosh, as I have a Mac and have been left in the cold when it comes to these major PC games. Plus, if it really does stretch across all of Tamriel, I'm psyched to see how they have the environments set up. I'll support it through and through, but I really hope it goes well, otherwise the franchise could become discredited.
  • dude that's AWESOME! i just wish that they were making it for the xbox 360 :(
