Spartan Ops: The Bold New Co-Op Of Halo 4

In the second story for our week of multiplayer coverage we want to introduce and detail one of the largest new additions to the Halo package: the co-op mode called Spartan Ops. Broken up into seasons, these weekly doses of videos coupled with missions attempt to bring Halo fans back to the game on a regular basis, and give campaign players a reason to engage with the new narrative-focused multiplayer experience. Watch the video below to hear creative director Josh Holmes and lead Spartan Ops designer Chris Haluke explain the new mode and how they hope it will offer an inviting entrance into the integrated multiplayer world of Halo 4.

  • Ookkaayyy.

  • Spartan Ops is a horrible name yes. But that doesn't mean it's "spec ops", If you didn't realize spec ops came from gears of war horde, same with firefight, nothing like Spartan Ops has ever really been done before. So it has nothing to do with either stated above. The missions will be updated weekly and you will have to buy them via Spartan Points, not Microsoft Points. If you miss a week then you can just buy it when you return. But they will update, and it will be fun. All of you yell and hate because you think they ruined Halo, but truthfully, they are putting new interesting things in it. What you are all saying is like saying that we didn't need Halo 2 multiplayer since it was different. Calm down, and don't judge before trying. :)
  • I think that they must really not be thinking of originality in terms of coming up with a decent name for it. I hope that this doesn't mean that co-op is taken out of the regular campaign.
  • Cool beans.

  • That actually sounds like an interesting idea. Good for them, thinking of some innovations to make to the brand they inherited.

  • Was a little sketchy about it at first love the whole idea now.

  • Bungie,You will be Gr8ly missed...
  • mmm mmm

  • Skeptical as I have been with many games, being more into video games makes me be more careful with my money and not just immediately spend it on a game that will take me 8 hours to beat then never play it again. I like the concept but I dont know, it doesnt look like Halo...

  • I will miss Firefight, cause I loved to play a match or two when I was in the mood for Halo. But I won't knock Spartan Ops till I've given it a shot.

  • Everyone who is hating on this game before playing it is a freakin moron.
    1) COD has copied halo many times before (theater mode anyone?) and I didn't see anyone bustin their balls over it.
2.) Just because the game mode has "OPS" in it doesn't mean it is ripping off or plays anything like Spec Ops from COD. I don't remember that franchise having sole rights to use that word.
3.)There wont be iron sights. Whoever came up with that rumor is brain dead.
4.)There will be classic game modes as well as the new ones, so all you "hardcore" Halo gamers can stop b@tching.
5.) More story is always welcome. If you wan't brain dead gaming go play Wii Sports or something.
I swear, people need to learn to READ articles, and others need to keep their mouths shut. And yes, I'm mad bro.
  • They should include some sort of minor prize for finishing the op like credits or spartan points

  • Spartan Ops sound expensive
  • they made the assault rifle look dumb again. -,- i actually liked how it looked in reach.
  • Halo 4 rules! I think all the new stuff is awesome, everyone should quit complaining, you don't even know what the heck spartan ops, or a lot of other stuff that 343 has announced is even fully about. Don't judge before you play, not everything is the same in anything. Halo is no different. Just because it's being made by someone else doesn't mean it's gunna be bad, 343 has made awesome changes and frankly, without 343, Halo wouldn't even BE continuing, so why don't you stop complaining and wait till the game comes out?

  • I hope the dlc will be free >_<
  • They're making it sound as if these episodes are part of the retail release package and not paid DLC. That sounds cool and I'd be willing to spend money on more if it is. I had heard previously though that the missions aren't available after the week they're up. The buddy I would be playing these with is sometimes not available for entire weeks, so I'm hoping you can somehow replay these. In a game I'm not 100% sold on yet, Spartin Ops look promising.
  • hopefully this will be better then firefight and that halo 4 is just point blak better then the past games but from what im looking at 343 is going to do a way better job.

  • So does this mean ... no co-op in the regular campaign ? Im concerned.
  • will you get to play previous week's missions at a later date?
