Spartan Ops: The Bold New Co-Op Of Halo 4

In the second story for our week of multiplayer coverage we want to introduce and detail one of the largest new additions to the Halo package: the co-op mode called Spartan Ops. Broken up into seasons, these weekly doses of videos coupled with missions attempt to bring Halo fans back to the game on a regular basis, and give campaign players a reason to engage with the new narrative-focused multiplayer experience. Watch the video below to hear creative director Josh Holmes and lead Spartan Ops designer Chris Haluke explain the new mode and how they hope it will offer an inviting entrance into the integrated multiplayer world of Halo 4.

  • Name...lame...idea..awsome....will it be good...probaly...will people care...maybe....will people probaly go and play more mindless cod...sadly....yes.

  • Sounds awesome, My Spartans and 3 others will finally actually be important to the game instead of just being thrown in there.
  • Man , Halo is just a horrible rail shooter. The one liners are horrible as well as the boring recycled weapons. The vehicle controls are horrid and their speed makes them feel like their at a standstill.
  • I like it I have always enjoyed story more than multiplayer.

My thoughts on this are that all i hope is its just an update every week not a dlc some people don't have that kind of money but keep the previous episodes still accessible. What would really be cool was if they made where your friends all coop with each other and have a hub where you access the episodes where basically it looks like you get assigned a mission and other spartan teams are there but once you join a mission it's just you and your friends but at the hub place you can get others to tag along or recruit mercenary like AIs who can help you and your freinds

You know what my idea is just sounding like a halo/phantasy star online crossover but all in all pretty aweasome

  • I hope it's not only available for that week... what if my buddies don't have time that week, I'm in the hospital, or am too broke to get gold for a couple weeks?

  • This sounds really cool.  I wonder how long they will implement this content every week though.  I bet it starts off as weekly and then slowly declines from there.

Still sounds exciting.  Sounds like we are getting almost a second campaign but with maybe not such a serious story.  This should allow them to experiment a little bit with their storytelling.  I'm stoked :D

  • hopefully this games better than halo 3...so far it has potential...

  • Sounds like a cool idea.  Sort of like, episodic co-op.

  • If they can create interesting missions on a weekly basis, this will probably pull me back into the game, not that I'd need much convincing with a Halo game. That said, the key word is 'interesting'; if they aren't interesting, I'll probably just ignore them and focus on the competitive multiplayer. I hope this goes well, because as Mass Effect 3 has shown us, weekly events can pull a lot of people back into a game's multiplayer mode, and Halo 4's multiplayer will, I think, always have more people on it, so it shouldn't be hard if these have matchmaking support.

  • I'd play that

  • I do not want more campaign, I am fine thank you. Give me firefight back, I just want to team up with other people and simply slay enemies, not play more story.

  • Franchise died when Bungie left it to 343i, Treyarch wannabes. I don't have anything against Halo.
  • 1:12 "Oh ***, don't give away spoilers!" Umm, this incredible galaxy... yeah, nice save...

  • How much is going to cost? Are we going to have to pay per episode, or is there going to be something in line with Elite Pass or Epic's Season Pass?
  • I think it is a great idea but I don't think that it will be as casual and nonchalant like firefight was. As well as the name Spartan ops makes Firefight sound way more bad ass.

  • So if you miss one week of these chapter things then what? do you miss part of the story?

  • All the people who are complaining seem to be the minority.

  • I tend not to want a lot more marketing campaign, I am fine thank you. Give me firefight back again, I just would like to crew up with other people and simply just slay enemies, not engage in extra story.

  • I am actually excited for the new Spartan Ops. It sounds incredibly interesting to me, especially being a weekly episodic event.

  • I'm excited for the possibilities of this game as well as with upcoming others, such as Borderlands 2, Rainbow 6, the soon to come Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, AC3, Black Ops 2, Far Cry 3 and many others...  Halo has such a large and epic universe, I want to see gaps filled in its stories.
