Halo 4's Changes To Competitive Multiplayer

This week at gameinformer.com is devoted to the changing face of Halo 4's multiplayer and we are starting things out by talking about the competitive side of things. You might have heard that 343 Industries is interested in making some changes to the classic Halo formula. We sat down with lead multiplayer designer Brad Welch to talk about the new emphasis on story, customizable loadouts, and the new and updated modes for Halo 4. Watch the video below to learn more about what your competitive multiplayer experience will look like in Halo 4 and stay tuned to the site throughout the week to learn about the new co-op experience called Spartan Ops.

  • Cant Wait!
  • lol bringing back dmr?
  • "We put Sprint into the base ability set" Yes, please. It only took four games for Spartans to learn how to run on their own...
  • Halo is dead to me.
  • Whenever Bungie talked about Halo, they were like a caffien-fuled 6 year old talking about some awesome dragon/tank/bomb that they had just drawn.

When 343i talks about it, it's like watching engineers talk about load distribution or accountants talking about quarterly earning reports... Not as much passion.
  • While I'm skeptical, I'm also interested. As long as they have classic modes, I'm happy. A change of style is always welcome though.
  • Meh, seems too Reach-y to me. Halo 1 had the best multiplayer, then 2, then 3, then everything after that sucked and you should just play Gears or CoD.
  • I hope that they bring back armor customization back to Halo 4. I am not a fan of the Spartan IV's helmet.
  • Why was his mouth still moving after he finished talking?
  • I hope I will be able to customize my character in more ways than the other Halo games provided.
  • Mod
I'm still a little worried about Forerunner Vision but it is good to know it'll have a counter to it. Also not sure how I feel about unlocking weapons and such through ranking in my Halo. Still, for the few doubts I have, there more good things I like about it I really want to see what we can do with custom games in this one. They're so much fun in Reach. In the end though, as long as it feels, plays, and is as fun as Halo has been, I'm all good. I trust 343 to do a great job.
  • Regicide: Like Juggernaut, but with a new name!

  • Man, I really need to get through 3, ODST, and Reach over summer break :)
  • I cannot wait.

  • Well there really wasn't a lot of new information per say... at least they know that a lot of us hardcore Halo fans are very wary of the changes they're making. I guess we'll just have to trust they know what they're doing.
  • will there be a decent match-making system? cause bad match making just kills competitive multi-player games for me
  • So... they CoD-ified weapons and perks and renamed Juggernaut "Regecide"?
  • So looking forward to this. Halo has always been me and my cohorts go to multiplayer fps since the first game where we would lug our systems and T.V.'s across campus to set up our LAN parties. I'm very pleased with the news I'm hearing out of 343i. The end of this year can't come soon enough for me and my friends.
  • Please correct me if im wrong or something... but is anyone else starting to see Halo 4 become a futuristic Cod or Battlefield? I mean "custom load outs to fit playing style."?
