The lights are on
If you've been following our coverage for The Last of Us, you know about the story and inspirations for Naughty Dog's new IP but you are probably still curious about how the game plays. The team in Santa Monica is attempting to bring a raw sense of humanity to every aspect of the game and they are striving to make every enemy encounter leave a lasting impression. The game director Bruce Straley and creative director Neil Druckmann want to push enemy AI beyond the standard mindless henchman and to evolve the companion AI of Ellie away from a vapid escortee. Watch the video below to learn what choices you'll have and how Ellie can assist you in combat scenarios for The Last of Us.

Gah, so jealous :P I want
This better be like they say it's going to be.
Music to my ears. Sounds like Ellie won't get in your way, nor will she be dead weight. Looking forward to seeing this bad boy in action.
I'm getting really excited about this game. I think I'll play Uncharted 2 and 3 next weekend.
liked hearing about no regenerating health since regen would ruin the tension of survival. gameplay sounds lame though since they didn't talk about fighting zombies. sounds like it'll be the same boring cover-based Uncharted shtick only with better AI.
Does this game have a release date (official)? If not, do you have any idea when this could be released? Right now, this is my third most anticipated game other thsn Bioshock Infinate and Darksiders 2.
this puts me at ease. I had a huge worry that they were gonna keep the formula the same as Uncharted. I love those games, but it's been done. glad to see some initiative to do something truly different
can you taste the awesomeness? i can.
I think I'll start paying more attention to this game.. Need a new "wasteland" game, great as Fallout 3 might still be (to me), it's showing its age..
I think if you scalped someones buddy, their not going to start trying to flank you like Navy SEALS or something lol. I think most would panic and run away. I am curious to see just how the girl plays out.
i await to see the progress of the game developement, being from Naughty Dog I can predict that this game will fallow Naughty's high bar of quality in their games.
The game director really hit the issue on the head when he said, 'Ai'
I love the fact that they're having persistent health. With Uncharted, that wouldn't have been as fun, but it definitely fits the feel of this world that they're creating. Putting a little more survival into the action.
Sounds a lot like what "I am Alive" is doing, but with, well, quality. Not to say "I am Alive" will be bad but it's downloadable and has had a horrible development process so "The Last of Us" has a better chance of creating a great survival game.
I can't wait for this game. Naughty Dog always exceeds my expectations by a tremendous amount.
The new ideas for enemy and character designs are quite insane, as more real life-scenarios are put into games. The ability to have some liable choices in combat, and expecting new or differant reactions is amazing. The last of us is going to definetely going to pushing some new boundries, that will certinaly make gameplay better.... Unlike certin games, where your main goal is to just run inside some place, to shoot and/or blow everybody up!...

This game is sounding more and more amazing. Keep the coverage coming.
Wow there really going all out for this game. The new AI is really awsome cant wait for it.
I don't know if this will have zombies... But seems to me that Activision and EA won't be the rivalry of the year (again). This years that title goes to Naughty Dog v Capcom: The Last of Us v Resident Evil 6.
Again.... I don't know when The Last of Us will be released but I have a feeling it's going to be out Q4 2012.
