Watch Us Play The Entirety Of Abobo's Big Adventure

Abobo's Big Adventure has been touted as the "ultimate tribute to the NES," and it's completely free to play in-browser here. As longtime gamers who spent untold hours with the Nintendo Entertainment System, this caught the attention of Jeff Cork, Tim Turi, and myself. Its full version was recently released, and I decided we should play through the entire game and record our experience.

Watch below as we battle through stages inspired by Mario, Zelda, Double Dragon, and many, many more classic titles.

  • That was a welcome surprise! I've never heard of this game before but it looks really cool.

  • This game is pretty fun, but yeah the Zelda part does go on a little long

  • Creepy

  • That was awesome and entertaining to watch. I loved the old NES references, granted I played only afew of those games.

  • Manhandla is definitely the official name of that obnoxious Zelda boss.

It's a shame you didn't get any rage specials in the Punchout stage... watching Abobo dance like Don Flamenco... LOL.  Then I finished the fight with that Sandman ***'s move... wonder if they have any others, like Tiger's.  Good job guys, it only took you two Doc quotes to learn about that "spin punch."  Haha.

I am pretty freaking sure I beat Tyson/Dream by decision once... I always heard it was impossible, but I swear I did it.  They felt sorry for me or something.

Anyway, I got a kick out of hearing your nostalgic reactions anytime something new popped up.  It's nice to see old-school gaming being appreciated once in a while.

  • Incredible ending.  I'll never look at Kirby the same way again.

And to think, SOPA would've never let something like this come to fruition.

  • THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! Sooo Many Great Childhood Memories. Thanks Guys!

  • I played this a week ago. It was awesome. Watching them play it was even better.

  • Someone should make a full length game like this
  • Woah Dan and Tim. I was born in '91, my first game was not Mario 64, and I have definitely seen the original Donkey Kong. You might want to add a couple more years.

To be fair, I have older brothers, and my NES/SNES memories are pretty limited, since they weren't actually my games, but theirs. One of my first memories though, is sneaking down to my brothers room to play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Most of my early gaming was before I could remember. It's weird, like when I was 6, I'd go and play the original Super Mario Bros. The thing is, I remember going back to it, but I don't remember the first time I played it. I guess I was just too young. Point is, like you said about Atari, I have played and enjoyed many of the games referenced here. Not lately either, all back before I hit double digits. Playing Ninja Gaiden when you're like 5 isn't really fair though. I still have trouble with that game today.
  • I grew up on the playstation/64 generation but I still really enjoyed this game. I know I didn't get nearly as many references as someone who grew up on NES would, but I got plenty and the game was fun to play regardless.

  • I miss my NES!

  • on the wrestling level your rage move summons in four wrestlers and they all do their specials, i look forward to seeing dan freak out at that part

  • I like how you guys were so busy talking about the health code for the Punch-Out!! section that you missed the hint on the side of the screen.

Edit: Okay, you found it later, lol.

Edit: Man, you guys also skipped right over actually playing the bonus game. Pretty sure you click the link to it, and there's an unlockables section that shows it. You should go back and play that.
  • CHRONO TRIGGER CAT

    THAT'S SNES

  • Best video ever!!

This is amazing!! Absolutely love hidden games like this. So enjoyable to watch & play.

    Nostalgia overload!! Love it!!

  • If you guys go up the ledges at the end of the first level right before you go into the room where you fight Machine Gun Guy, there is a little surprise up there. It just adds to the crazyness of this game.
  • Wow... That's an awesome flash game.  Congrats to the creators for a job well done.

  • This was fun to watch, but your player is SOOO awful. Kept stopping in the middle, and switching resolutions. Pretty bad. Good job on beating it though. Clearly showed my dedication to GI in watching this through to the end

  • Man that was a trip down memory lane for me. Really nice work with that game
