Question Of The Month Reader Responses: Issue #225

by Jeff Marchiafava on Dec 06, 2011 at 03:00 AM

In issue #222 of Game Informer magazine, we asked readers how they were going to pay for this holiday's flood of great games. The latest issue (#225) contains a few of the responses we received, but if you're still looking for ideas, here's how more of your fellow gamers are saving up.

The Smart Response:

  • With so many games coming out this holiday season, cash is definitely something that I need to keep an eye on. It's easy to spend a nice chunk of a paycheck on the latest releases only to come home to an irate wife yelling at you about not having food while you take on mud crabs atop your trusty steed (clad in horse armor, of course!). That's no way to enjoy this season's blockbuster games. Instead, I've been going through my old collection of games and trading them in to pay off the new games coming out. Another option I use is to sell them on an auction site and then pre-order with the money in my PayPal account.  In doing this, I'm now able to pick up all the games I want and have most of them paid off. On a separate note, my family can eat, and the wife is content...for now.

The Smart Aleck Response:

  • How do I plan on paying for this season’s flood of high profile games? Answer: With money.

    Eric Chad

Don't Tell The Wife:

  • How do I plan on paying for all of the high profile games coming out this season? I'm an adult and I have a job! I'll buy whatever game I want - as long as my wife says it's okay.

  • Having graduated college with a lot of debt, gotten married in January, and moved to WI from MN, taking a 50 percent pay cut, I don't have a lot of money to spare for this fall's heavy hitters. My solution? Sell my recently broken down motorcycle, take the cash, walk into a video game store, and pre-order and pay off six titles...please don't tell my wife.

Banking On A Higher Power:

  • To pay for the explosion of new titles this holiday season, I've entered a religious congregation's essay contest for $300. In theory, the church is paying for my virtual adventures!

A Happy Birthday Indeed:

  • Well, my birthday is December 18th, but my dad said that I could get my copy of Skyward Sword a month early and go to the midnight launch with him. WIN!

    James Fischer

A Sick Scheme:

  • This season is insane! But I figured out what I'm going to do to be able to afford all the games I want. I decided since I'm telling my work I'm really sick so I can stay home and play Skyrim anyway, I might as well tell my family about my "illness" as well! Then suddenly it will take a turn for the worse and they won't be getting Christmas presents...but donations are helpful!

Abstinence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder:

  • I plan on paying for video games by practicing abstinence from spending money, and waiting until my birthday comes.

    Olivia Sutton

Welcome To Gaming Monogamy:

  • In order to play these games I have to make sacrifices. I have traded in my Xbox 360 and everything that goes with it. The six year relationship was great, but boy am I happy to be able to afford playing Arkham City and Skyrim on my PS3!

An In-Game Transaction:

  • I plan to pay for November's release blitz with the huge sack of gold coins I hoarded away playing Super Mario Bros. on the NES.

    Paul Rotter

What Are Brothers For?:

  • I plan on paying for this season's flood of high profile games with the rent money my brother gives me. You see, he moved out and I took his room. Then he moved back in and is giving me money (rent, for those of you idiots out there) to have my room. So now I have no privacy and sleep in our loft.

Bait And Switch:

  • My school sells Domino's pizza at lunch for $2 per slice. So, I'll buy a Little Caesar's for $5, stick it in a Domino's box, and sell each piece for two bucks. Trust me, people at my school are stupid, and this is teenage businessman-ship at its best.

Getting Paid To Do What You Love:

  • I picked up a part time job working in a corn maze scaring the daylights out of drunk men and ditsy teenagers! So much fun!

    Tony Feniello

Good Luck With That:

  • What I would do to pay for all of those high profile games is win the lottery.

    Dawson Beck

Organ Donor:

  • I'm selling a kidney. Thankfully, its not mine...mwahahaha!
