Skyrim Sneak Preview

With the release of Skyrim coming up faster than our free time would prefer, we brought together Andrew Reiner, Jeff Cork, and Joe Juba to discuss the knowns and unknowns of Elder Scrolls V. There's plenty of new footage sprinkled throughout their discussion, so stay on the look out for shots of new environments and enemies. Check out the video preview to learn why Skyrim will be one of the most exciting releases this year, and how much Andrew Reiner hates the bugs infesting the shores of the Mississippi river. Enjoy!

  • Joe, you have an epic beard I'm jealous
  • Yes! I am so ready!! I just need to find an IV to hook up with Mountain Dew
  • I haven't watched it and I already need to clean myself up...

*edit* Oh, so this isn't a sneak preview as in video, but a sneak preview as in you guys talk about everything we've already seen and questions as to how you think the game could improve... I'm cool with that. It was worth it in the end to see that weird new creature in the game. Do you know what they are going to call that creature in Skyrim?
  • Skyrim is almost here! My social life is not ready.
  • November 11th, the most anticipated day of Elder Scrolls fans everywhere. Can't wait! Also, awesome footage!
  • Me want.
  • may you feel the wrath of Khan for playing this game before me
  • My body is ready.
  • Can't wait, hope it lives up to morrowind.

Edit: Wait really? Armor doesn't degrade? No class system? How casual are you going to make this game Bethesda? I really, really hope this doesn't mean I'm going to be able to be some godlike ultra warrior master of all three specializations.. which is what this is starting to sound like. One of the Best parts about Elder Scrolls is making a class. This character will have certain weaknesses, and strengths. It made endless class possibilities and added so much replay value. I feel like they're stripping that all away (They already stripped a lot away from Morrowind to Oblivion) and now everyones going to be some stealth mage warrior. Unless the perks REALLY differentiate the classes, then I don't like where this is going.

And as for level scaling, I agree with Jeff. Morrowind was a unique, almost scary at times, experience because if you went too far off in the lands you were bound to die. I loved being afraid of going into places. The fact that you could get one shotted would literally have you running out of dungeons frightened. In Oblivion, it was "Okay this dungeon will guarenteed have either A. Skeletons B. Vampires or C. Bandits and of course random varients, but it was all the same.

I know this is a wall of text, but I hope they do not make this game so casual as to strip away the rpg aspects and make it a hack and slash fable. That is what this sounds like they are doing to Elder Scrolls. They're Peter Molyneuxing a great series. Please prove me wrong Bethesda.
  • It's official, Christmas is cancelled and I am going BROKE

  • only reason i bought bf3 was to keep my self busy till this comes out.. anyone else do the same?
  • I don't think I've ever been this excited for a game in a series I've never played before. I'm more excited than I was for Dragon Age 2 and Fallout New Vegas combined.
  • SKYRIM!!!!!!! and Reiner, Jeff, and Joe...

  • Why are you doing this to me the wait is already unbearable.

  • Why does Joe have to be in this? Isn't Dan just as excited for Skyrim as him? Oh well, it's worth watching to see Skyrim footage and Andrew and Cork talking about it.
  • lookin' good. cant wait. thanks!
