Reiner And Phil Play Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning

I've been preaching the gospel of Reckoning to anyone who will listen since I first saw this promising open-world RPG from 38 Studios and Big Huge Games. A couple of weeks ago, I got to spend several hours with the game from the start, and we recorded one of those hours just for you!

In this extra-long edition of Reiner and Phil, we're joined by Ian Frazier, the lead designer of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. With Ian's help, we take you on a whirlwind tour of everything this massive game has to offer, from factions to fast-paced combat to oodles of sidequests. Watch in wonder as I reveal the world of Amalur and manage to step into every single trap I can find along the way.

Check out the video below and look for an extended text preview of Reckoning in the November issue of Game Informer.

  • WHAT!

  • reiner and phil = yay
  • Recorded just for us? I feel special :)

  • Reminds me of Divinity 2. I will still most likely get it though. I loved that game but I hated that it ended.
  • When is this scheduled for release?
  • I think this game will be great, but I really don't know what others think.
  • ~yay~ A new Reiner and Reiner's Sidekick!

EDIT: Hmmm.. This is looking a lot like Fable, in terms of combat... Not sure how I feel about that.
  • This looks like the RPG I have really been looking for. Visually impressive, combat looks like great fun, and it just has a feel to it that I really did. I'm reminded of an alternate universe where Fable is 1,000X better. Consider myself sold.
  • May have to preorder this one. Shaping up really nice. Dark Souls, Elder Scrolls V, Mass Effect 3, The Witcher 2, and now this...RPG gamers are being spoiled. Loving it.
  • The Depth of a true RPG with the combat system of an action game... goodbye money.

  • your guy is wearing sandals
  • Phil, I confess myself disappointed. I was convinced that after Dark Souls, you would have been the trap king.

  • Hope we see the dynamic duo of Reiner and Phil play a certain game with a very angry sounding title this week.
  • I saw a few bugs...but that is expected when playing a unfinished game. Other than that, This is going to be the third RPG I am going to buy and i can't wait! But..I will say is that the skill's screens look rather confusing... I'll most likely get used to it when playing it, but i do hope they make it a little bit more accessible. Also, those menus look rather bland compared to the world your playing in.
  • Wow, this looks amazing!  I haven't really followed the development of Reckoning, so I didn't know much about it, except hat it had some pretty solid talent behind it. This preview has sparked some serious interest though. Its good that this game isn't coming out this fall because now I have something to look forward to during the bleak months of winter.

  • I was on the fence about this one, but this actually looks pretty cool.

  • How can you not want to buy this beautiful game?

  • Surprise of the week, Reiner and Phil have made me a happy RPG fanatic.

I'm looking forward to this more than probably any other RPG in the next 6-8 months. Already looking forward to a Magic/Rogue hybrid.

Edit: Phil I share you desire to break everything, I think it comes from playing Zelda games personally. All those pots...

Edit: Edit: Ian was a great guest, Far more entertaining (if a bit...odd perhaps slightly forced) personality than most guests
  • It's just known as Reckoning to those in the know... I just made that up.
It actually looks like my kind of game, from watching this. Something to look forward to in February. ^_^
  • This looks awesome.  I'm so excited.
