The lights are on
Being prepared is the best option going into any apocalypse. Good planning is especially important when the undead are roaming around. Dead Island (read the review here) allows players to dive into an open world brimming with shambling, cannibalistic corpses and choose how they face the threat. There are tons of things to do and creatures to kill on Banoi Island, but we’ve prepared a few tips that will make starting your adventure a smoother experience.

While these are things I would have liked to know going into the game, I still enjoyed learning and discovering things on my own. Remember to have fun and explore.

Great call on putting this up. I plan on picking up the game later today when I get off work, and having this will save me some frustration.
I can't wait to (eventually) pick this game up, everything I've read about it so far has been nothing but positive. It's like Fallout 3 meets Borderlands meets Left 4 Dead, and there can't be anything wrong with that.
Thanks for the guide.
YOU DA MAN TIM!
I think I'll buy this game now. gonna be a blast with some friends
Oooh, jump kick. Thanks for that. I usually stick to kicking the zombies while they're down to keep the weapon from degrading. I also heard that throwing it doesn't damage it either. But, there is that risk...
Any news on when the patch is coming out?
I'm having a ton of fun with this game. Good pointers to get started. I'll add another crucial one:
Loot everything. You need all the money you can get for repairing weapons and such, so it's worth the effort to stop and check out every suitcase, trashcan, and crate. Many of the loot containers regenerate after awhile, too.
The first four rules of Dead Island:
1. Cardio
2. The Double Tap
3. Beware of Bathrooms
4. Wear Seat Belts (Crap! What do you mean there isn't a buckle up option!?)
There is a lot of trashing on this game and to be honest I got the game last night and am only an hour into it, I am enjoying the hell out of it. It's definitely not the most polished game out there, but the RPG aspects and Quests have suprised me and totally engaged me. I just got to work, but I am already counting down the hours so I can go home and rape some zombies!
Great tips Tim! I use the kicking like crazy - I pretty much always kick first and then beat the hell out of them when they are rolling around on the ground.
Very happy with my purchase - especially since it only cost me $25! (gotta love Best Buy rewards, lol)
Reiner won't like it if you make GI start doing strat guides again Tim.
Way to leave the game once I joined you 2 nights ago Tim :(
One of the biggest things I learned that I should share is with logan. At the beginning when you throw weapons your rarely going to get one hit kills with your thrown weapons. And you wont have the boomerang skill. A trick is to throw weapons into enemies, then kick them while grabbing the weapon from the zombies body. This allows you to knock back an enemy and gain one of your weapons back in one move. You whould also be careful about throwingall of your weapons away. Its okay to damage zombies with weapons. But maybe when they are close to dead you should kick them back and try to finish them with a throw.
