Replay: Aladdin

Games based on movies are almost always crappy, and that's the case in 2011. Back in the 16-bit days, it was almost a certainty that they'd be terrible. However, one beloved Disney film made for a fantastic Genesis sidescroller (a slightly different version was on Super Nintendo, but we play the Genesis version on this episode). Watch below as myself, Tim Turi, Andrew Reiner, and Ben Reeves revisit the charming Aladdin.

  • I remember when I used to watch Aladin as a kid, and that CREEPY sand monster came out of the ground and I always cryed my eyes out, and ran away!
  • I once tried to get 100% on this game. So hard.

  • Looks like prince of persia, I'll check it out.

  • abbabbabba haha i forget what the code did but this was the greatest game when I was younger I loved the gameplay and would love to beat it again. I just looked at the year it was released and am I amazed that I was playing games like this at four years old.
  • Good job; Genesis Aladdin > SNES Aladdin (likewise with JP).
  • Hah, I used to love this game as a child. I played it all the time.
  • Oh man, I love this game. The first Genesis game I was ever able to complete. I think I'll go hook up my Genesis and play this after I'm done watching this Replay.

  • I got to meet Jonathan Freeman (Jafar) a couple years ago. He was on Broadway acting in The Little Mermaid, but I'm not sure if he's still there. He was a really nice guy! Most voice actors are incredibly friendly, much more so than other stars.

  • Don't worry Ben, I have a satchel too. ...Then again I'm gay. Ben's obviously just metrosexual when it comes to Marvel accessories. And man, I LOVED Aladdin as a kid. I used to play this all the time. I had the SNES version, and I don't think there's that much of a different. I do know there was like a level with clouds or something, though.
  • Loved this game! There was this and The Lion King, they were both great games back in the day.
  • I have both SNES and Genesis versions and I prefer the SNES because of the controller and the sound quality was much better. This reminds me of how much I loved the 16-bit era - a game actually had a difference depending on which console it was on. It was almost an incentive to get all consoles to experience it all. Nowadays, games are just ported over...nothing different....
  • Ben's Godfrey sounded more like Bill Cosby...

  • Scott Weinger was the one who voiced Aladdin. He dated DJ on Full House.

  • I liked the x-men game with spiderman for the genesis I think it was called arcades revenge or somethin like that and then there was some other x-men game for snes where in one level you would be cyclops in a mine cart blastin guys with lasers I hated that level but loved the game

  • man you guys are harsh on Ben. I loved Aladdin for Genesis, not so much for the SNES though. "Inside the Genie's Lamp" level there was a Genesis console in the background.

  • I never thought I played this game until I saw the carpet segment, then I remember me and a friend would play this a lot, especially that carpet level.

  • Today there are almost no good movie games at all. Sure there maybe one or two good ones, but even then they can't compare to some other games like Uncharted and Final Fantasy.

  • I remember playing this as a kid in my orthodontist's office, and I wish that I didn't have to meet with him because it was fun playing the game

  • I played this yesterday. What a surprise!

  • I loved this game on Super Nintendo, never played the Genesis version, although this Genesis version looks much better than the SNES one, looks more like the actual Disney movie! *** you Nintendo with your inferior graphics! lol Still was an all around fun game though none the less.
