The lights are on
While it was undoubtedly inspired by Resident Evil, Silent Hill managed to offer a completely different breed of fear than Capcom's mega-hit. Rather than relying on jump scares, Konami's series was more about instilling a constant feeling of dread. Whether it was from the suffocating fog that plagued the town or the constant static from your radio, something was always there to remind you that things weren't right. Over a decade later, we decided to pop it in to see if it could still make our skin crawl.
Watch below as Tim, Reiner, Jeff Marchiafava, and myself replay the original Silent Hill.

I've finished all my scary PS One games like RE2, RE3 and Silent Hill. Silent Hill is very scary and difficult and very cumbersome.
Awesome roulette, although Silent Hill looks like it hasn't aged all that well. I played some of the series (mostly 2) and really loved the atmosphere and storytelling, but had trouble getting past the opacity of the design. That's more or less how I feel about the whole survival-horror genre from that era.
As for suggestions, how about Bangai-O for the Dreamcast? It is simultaneously one of the best and most overlooked shooters ever made, has a hilariously incomprehensible translation ("The intensity is getting good! Behold the wonderful world of 2D! Three cheers for Bangai-O!") and the answer to Reiner's question about fruit and vegetable eating robots in the Mega Man Legends Super Replay.
They decided to play this not long after Reiner and I had a conversation on Twitter about the Silent Hill games. He mentioned that he liked The Room the best and I agreed with him, so therefore I will always believe that I inspired this Replay, and that's awesome.
You guys should check out a SNES game called The Secret Of Evermore for Super Replay. I loved that game as a kid. Neat story that went through different timelines, fun dungeons, and tense boss fights. And a really kickass dog that shifted looks through the timelines.
One of my Favorite PSX games eva! I loved playing through this back in the day.
what the hell is going on around 6:30?
also, the fact that dan is that into twisted metal 2 is awesome. one of my childhood favorites.
this game scared the crap out of me. the atmosphere was perfect. i shouldn't have played this alone in the dark.
Lol, jill memorial day.
Holy crap I own Judge Dredd. Sadly it doesn't work with my guncon. I think the disc is too scratched.
I remember playing "System Shock 2" in my dark room with surround sound speakers and getting scared, I had passed over the wrench so I had no weapons and the first zombie crew mate I run into comes running at me screaming "IM SORRY" I turned the game off.
That awful/weird sound must be from the disc not aging well. The same thing happened to me recently when I loaded up my copy - only the noise never stopped. Luckily SH1 is on PSN now.
Weak Replay of such a big name, to see actually more of the game would have been better.
i love silent hill
I kind of wish you guys had done a Super Replay of Silent Hill instead.
Please do a replay of Killzone 1. Would greatly appreciate it.
wow its still good to know that silent hill STILL sucks ass.... hated that game then and still hate it now.... as for judge dread, I still believe that someone out there can accually turn it into a decent movie
