What's Happening

The Gun Peddlers Of Pandora

A massive variety of weapons was one of the primary selling points of the first Borderlands, touted in ad campaigns as featuring “87 bazillion” guns. While the game may not have actually invented a new unit of measurement, there certainly was a ton of unique weapons with a wide variety of attributes and functions. If you looked at these guns within your inventory, you’d get to see which manufacturer made them. Despite the inclusion of these brands in the first game, they never really had a distinct personality. With Borderlands 2, Gearbox wants each manufacturer to have a distinct visual ID and clearly-defined characteristics. Read on to learn about some of Pandora’s primary gun peddlers.

Bandit

Anyone who played through the first game is familiar with the bandit foes (hell, a bandit is even the primary focus of the box art). In Borderlands 2, these troublemakers have started putting together their own weaponry. They’re not the most organized or mechanically inclined group, so their selection will be notably ramshackle. Instead of a scope, a Bandit sniper rifle might feature a glass bottle. Instead of iron sights, a screw. On the plus side, Bandit guns feature the largest magazines of any manufacturer, though the increased size leads to longer reload times.

Dahl

Borderlands certainly sticks out from the crowded FPS marketplace, but Dahl’s weapons should feel familiar to fans of modern military shooters. These weapons will resemble more realistic gun designs like the firearms from series such as Call of Duty and Battlefield.

Hyperion

Even if you don’t remember the Hyperion name from the first Borderlands, you know their visual style thanks to a certain robotic buddy they happened to manufacture. Yes, Claptrap’s clean yellow-and-white design is a trademark of the weapons dealer, and their guns will feature the same look.

Vladof

These weapons carry a distinctly Russian vibe, with similarities to the ultra-common AK-47. This being Borderlands and all, it wouldn't feel right to not have at least some silliness present. That's why all of Vladof's weapons will have minigun barrels as attachments. In terms of stars, this brand boasts the highest fire rate out of any of Pandora's weapons.

  • Darn, I was hoping for some Jakobs weapons concept art. As my main is Mordecai full sniper, Jakobs snipers with their huge damage potential were often my favorite, especially after I got a pearlescent drop and grabbed my first Bessie. Good lord that gun is a magnificent beast. Nothing brings a bigger smile to my face than critting for 30 or 40 *thousand* damage. :D
  • As a person who was so addicted to Borderlands 1 that I bought and sold it multiple times, this quite literally induces a squeal of joy. Can't wait to get my hands on a Vladof and a Torgue, but most of all, a Bandit.

  • And is it just me, or does the build of that specific Tediore combat rifle/SMG up there remind anyone slightly of the Pulse Rifle of Aliens fame?

  • I'm definitely ready for Borderlands II. It sounds like this one has more to offer than the first one.

  • Need more Borderlands...

  • MALIWAN - is gonna be better then ever, I loved there guns from the first game and I think i'll love them more now since they may be more futuristic and still deal element tech damage.

TORGUE - seems quite "out there" and I like that. I think they'll be kick ass.

JAKOBES - will be a power house craving more out of the player, great for those pesky Bandits. And remember "If it took more then one shot, you weren't using a Jakobs"

TEDIORE - will be like "Guns from Wal-Mart" kinda deal, throwing them away when you need more ammo, hilarious.

HYPERION - they may be the next foe in Borderlands 2 but they still have the great quality "shoot from a far and still hit your target"

DAHL - is the first of the weapons you get in Borderlands 1 but in Borderlands 2 will have more of a military feel and look, like in CoD or Battlefield.

VLADOF - still having the same charm as always "talk fast shoot faster" attitude, ALL of the guns in this line have mini-barrels as-well OMG.

BANIT - low-tech guns but high ammo clips for the poor Bandits...

ATLAS - no ATLAS info awww.

S&S - anyone know anything about the gun maker? I think the BANDIT guns may have taken there place for the "high ammo clip"

ERIDIAN - They may not be in the game BUT no one ever used so not a major loss to the game the great thing about the weapon maker was that quite a lot of there guns were extremely precise.

GEARBOX - "rare and powerful" hopefully still in just locked away in say arena challenges or something.

Out of all of the GUN makers VLADOF, MALIWAN, BANDIT and TEDIORE look like the guns for me.

  • No S&S? :(

  • Are they gonna keep jacobs...

  • Could have used more art, but definitely interesting.
