The lights are on
Stealth games aren't easy to pitch. Harvey Smith and Raf Colantonio have spent decades studying and crafting a specific type of game, but they have also spent decades trying to convince publishers that there is an audience for immersive first-person games with RPG elements. The two co-creative directors for Dishonored speak with Game Informer's Adam Biessener about the relationship between developers and publishers, what the acquisition of Arkane Studios by ZeniMax has meant for the spirit of the studio, and why it never hurts to receive creative advice from Bethesda's Todd Howard.

I'm glad they have freedom. The best art comes out of it, I think. Especially in a world with Activision and EA..which...are...yeah...
"We felt we had to sneak stealth into the game" Ba-da tsh
It's great that Arkane still feels free to do what they want with their game. In these days of turning profits and gaming as a business, that's become increasingly rare. Hope you guys make a great game!
I really wanna see some gameplay for this game. I'm uber-curious.
Hopefully it features some rpg elements.
I'm happy for Arkane that they are free to create the game in their own way. Bethesda is cool for letting them do this, unlike Activision and all those big companies that are literally strangling developers to make a great game.
Bethesda is da bomb, and yes they need to convince them to let us ride the dragons :)
good Bethesda
This guy remind anyone else of Hugh Jackman?
i cant wait for Dishonored. Tell them ill buy it!
I love this game ready. I can't wait to play it
It's good to see creative control being encouraged. Personally, I am a big fan and I would like to see A LOT more of it. It gives the game a realistic touch and creates a more enriching experience. Its also nice to see that Harvey Smith and Raf Colantonio have found a place that they can call home and way to get their ideas materialized without the constraints of publishing getting in the way. Dishonored looks like a title that I will be purchasing and enjoying in the near future.
That depth and detail is what I love most about these first person hybrid styled games. To be perfectly honest, as a hardcore gamer of 25+ years, these types of games are really the only ones that I get true satisfaction from these days. The CoD and Gears of Wars of this world just feel like such an empty pointless experience. But games like this and BioShock and Elder Scrolls, are why I still game at all.
And the more I hear the developers speak about Dishonoured, the more excited I become for this game. :)
Cant wait to see some gameplay footage.
Ads on your videos?? C'mon GIO!
What engine are they using? This situation sounds a lot like what ID did by switching from EA to Bethesda. The AI sounds like a very compelling part of the game like in Rage. Can't wait to see first gameplay and/or trailer.
*nods with a grin* I am really liking the philosophy these fellas have. It's a long way off until we can actually see some of these concepts in action I'm sure, but I'm excited nonetheless.
