Spoiled! Shadows Of The Damned

Mikami and Suda51's twisted joyride, Shadows of the Damned, is about a latino demon slayer traveling through the depths of hell to rescue his demented girlfriend from a six-eyed demon named Fleming. Armed with his trusty pistol, the Boner, and his floating skull companion, Johnson, he eventually overcomes the trials waiting for him south of heaven. With a premise this twisted, it's no wonder the conclusion of Shadows of the Damned is a roller coaster ride of odd. Whether you've played through the game and wish to dwell on the ludicrous happenings again, or didn't play it and want it spoiled for you, be sure to watch this eyebrow-raising episode.

Final warning: Spoilers

  • Crap. I still have to play this. And with Old World Blues coming out tomorrow that won't be for at least a week.

  • Don't plan on playing it, so I will definitively watch

PS When are reiner and phil gonna get there own hub

PPS joe juba is a bloody murderer (RIP Ric Flair)

  • I signed copy of ET the game? That is a rather odd display. I tell you from about 5:15 is when the ending just lost me. What just happened? Did I get eaten? Are we in another strange part of hell? Still, the most tame thing Suda51 has ever had their name on.
  • Yeah that ending was really confusing. Garcia mentions that Paula is the mistress of the lord of demons and everything, which just had me thinking "Wait. When did we find out about that?" It was kind of came out of nowhere. Hopefully they do make a sequel though. Also, that game probably has one of my favorite references of all time - the segment where the whole level is pretty much an homage to the Evil Dead :)
  • the last minute of the first video was...
  • Yeah, you guys hit that on the head I think, a very intrueging ending.
As for sequel talk, I wonder if sales are really a factor? No more heroes sold semi decently, but NMH2 bombed, but there's still talks of a third one.
Maybe grasshopper's becoming like the Stanley Kubrick of video games, in which they manage to continue with big budget titles despite lack of commercial success.
  • @5:05 I've never played this game but I knew that would happen

  • that was a weak ending; and the really white rapping at the very end was buckets of sadness and failure. I have heard that bad of rapping since Danny Blaze. Though it seems very DMC-esque; not so much story wise, but the main characters personality and style are similar. Plus, never been a fan of the whole damsel in distress vehicle for game stories. Seems done to death, no pun intended.
  • The only thing eye-raising about this is the loading screens.

  • What did i just watch?

  • My thoughts on the ending go something like this: The ending is actually the very beginning of the game, the moments before paula was abducted. (At the beginning of the game we see Garcia finishing off a demon in an alley outside his apartment with his shirt off, the same way we see him at the ending.) Paula was in fact Flemings mistress the whole time, as Garcia stated during the game he first met her found next to a dumpster. He took care of her and she didn't say a word until one day Garcia answered the phone and she attempted to kill him, where he fell in love with her. He also states that she is known to have these fits of rage during the first time he is chased by her in the forest stage. It is also strongly implied that Paula is the Unbreakable Mistress, the demon hunter who challenged Fleming and was defeated and made her mistress. (This was implied when Johnson stated she dressed in red, and Flemings states she looks good in red before the fight with him) Johnson also states that Fleming made Paula his queen, and also punished her by repeatedly killing her and bringing her back to life, which echoes Paula' torture thru out the game. Garcia knew the whole time that Paula was the demon lords mistress, but was never said during the game to serve as a twist for the player. Her transforming into the back dress was her demon form that fleming forced on her, which is why she switches between her "Angel" self and her "Demon" during the final battle. The voice on the phone was Flemings, which is why Paula wanted Garcia to put down the phone both during the first time they met and the ending as she was on the run from Fleming. Both Garcia and Paula die together, the only true escape from Hell as Paula can finally die in peace as opposed to the torture of constantly dying over and over again and in a way symbolizes marriage, as both can now "settle down" to a life (or lack of) peace. The reason there was no explicit story told during the game except during the very end was because Garcia knew well before hand of Paula's past and this non linear story twist was used to surprise us players with the true plot.
  • Paula was the huntress that you read about in one of the fables throughout the game. At least that's what I thought...
I believe it said something about a huntress warrior who was trying to slay the lord of the damned but was beaten. It went on to say that the lord of the damned admired her resilient spirit so much that he would revive her and kill her over and over. I just found it similar to Paula's situation, thus, finding a correlation between the two.
  • This game is weird! Suda51 is full of crazies!

  • Tim's shirt says Leon Kennedy, but he looks like Barry Burton...
  • i had a blast with this game been through it 4 times through this summer drought and it was a blast every time

  • Little too much at the end with the rapping part. Even the best rappers would consider that unnecessary cussing. Good ending otherwise.
  • Classic Turi-inspired circle strafe strategy during those final fights...nice discussion and weird ending. It's always nice to have faces to go with the voices of you guys, but hard to not look at the items behind you...

  • After watching this i want the game even more!

  • Ok... that was weird

  • Thanks for spoiling another one for me. Honestly, I'll probably never play these types of games so I appreciate having the opportunity to see the ending and have you guys offer your thoughts afterward! Keep them coming! And what a laughably vulgar rap :)
