Embracing The Supernatural: The Art Of Darksiders II

While you may have already seen Joe Madureira demonstrate and explain his own drawing process, there is an entire team of unsung heroes hard at work in the art department of Darksiders II. Led by art director Han Randhawa, the team at Vigil Games is exploring the possibilities of the afterlife as they leave Earth behind and dream up the most interesting locations imaginable. Watch the video to hear about the artistic direction for the sequel, a definition of the "Darksiders style", and to learn the process of how the land of the dead is brought to life.

  • The art style for Darksiders 2 looks spectacular.I like the fact that no environment will be wispy, and they are working hard to create strong visuals. From the desolation of the Dead Plains to the other varied dungeons, Darksiders 2 looks to be as fantastic visually as it is gameplay-wise, and I for one can't wait to play it.
  • Just ordered Darksiders 1 so i can play it and then buy darksider 2
  • I'm definetely loving these art videos. I bet they have a blast thinking up new concepts and ideas. I also appreciated them talking about how they constantly give each other feedback about the art style needing to fit they game, not just the artists rendition of the concept.

  • Darksides may not be a franchise that speaks to me from a gameplay standpoint, but I can't deny the exceptional art being put into the sequel.

It was funny to see "edgy" as a super important design philosophy. Granted it's referring to geometry and texture, but out of context that's golden XD

  • This game is going to be very cool :)

  • I just want to say that the art of any video game is the most interesting thing for me to hear about in those "special features" sections offered in the game's extras stuff, and this is no exception, love the art style and i love hearing about it
  • They have such a magnificent art style for this game, and it's always amazing to see the art put forth by the entire team and to see their widely varying styles. Their ideas for fantasy are awesome and the level of work and thought they put into it really shows off their dedication and skill.

  • Looks pretty *** awesome. The thing that still bothers me though is the design of Death. He looks way too much like an 80s Glam Rock band member. Besides the mask, I just can't imagine him as the personification of death and dying and such.
  • I love their artist's work. Joe's rough, bulky style is pretty fun to emulate, especially since my art is usually very thin, eloquent and streamlined. It's really skilled and has had some influence on a few character design sketches that I've been doing lately.
  • Hey G.I. since you talk to Vigil, tell them to add a New Game + feature. It's something more games should offer, and would also help their review scores. Demon's Souls got it right, no matter how long you play it, it just keeps getting tougher. Also I would like a wallpaper HD version of the screen shot used for the article, it's a beaut. Thanks.
  • I want it now >.<

  • Never played the first one, but I AM getting this!
