Replay: Shadows Of The Empire

Dozens of Star Wars titles have been released since the 1980s, and they've run the gamut from excellent (Knights of the Old Republic) to downright awful (Masters of Teras Kasi). Shadows of the Empire was released near the beginning of the Nintendo 64's life cycle, and it falls somewhere in between.

The opening mission on Hoth is great, and its popularity spawned the excellent Rogue Squadron games. However, its on-foot missions weren't quite as universally loved. Watch below as we revisit this middle-of-the-road Star Wars title.

  • Cool. But I think you should do let's plays on recent games, like hitman or Halo. It would be fun if you did Battlefield also.
  • I never got past the first level. Hated it. I never even knew you could walk around.

  • This game makes me feel old. I remember having a blast with this on PC.
  • Wampa Stompa... putting in that debug code was one of the first puzzles I solved as a gamer.
  • Maybe because it was a Star Wars game I was able to overlook its flaws, but I remember absolutely loving this game as a kid when the N64 first came out. Looking back, however, its easy to tell this game wouldn't stand the test of time.
  • Good times, good memories. Gall Spaceport made me so angry with the awkward jumps and then finally the quirky jet-pack....

    Seeker missles ftfw!

  • I'd like to see a replay of jak 3.
  • I hated this game so much. I prefer Rouge Sqadron over this. R.I.P. Factor 5

Also, please do a replay on F-Zero GX
  • I remember the PC version. Only ran right for about 2 years and then all the new hardware made it run way too fast. As far as know they never fixed this problem. This game was ok but nothing to right home about. N64 version was way easier to play then the PC version but the PC version was way prettier.

  • LucasArts should get off their ass and release BF3! For God's sake, what are they waiting for!
  • Oh man... Rogue Squadron was one of my faves.
  • I loved Shadows of the Empire! I remember playing the hell out of that game and finding absolutely everything there was to find. I hated the Boba Fett boss battle though. The jetpack sucked.
  • Oh how nostalgia is beating me in the face with a frying pan...

  • Perhaps it's just nostalgia talking, but I loved this game and was hoping that one day it would release on the Virtual console

  • I loved both of these games growing up! Even that terrible SouthPark game!

  • The salty balls episode is when the indie films comes to southpark and all the peoples fecal waste is killing Mr. Hanky

  • I loved this game on the N64, and I hope LucasArts announces Battlefront III at E3, they owe it us Star Wars fans who where burnt from the flop that is Force Unleashed II!!!!
  • Let's see you play a Sonic game. I don't think that you guys ever had played one for a Replay.
  • Very nice, I remember when I rented this game from Blockbuster.  KOTOR is probably my favorite Star Wars game ever.  I hope that The Old Republic can deliver much better.  Not a big fan of the Roulette game, but it was funny to play.

  • Just a SW geek thing, but in the Battle of Hoth level, you are actually playing as Dash Rendar, not Luke Skywalker. It's pronounced Sheezor and spelled Xizor. The turret is not an ion cannon, it's an E-web heavy repeating blaster.
