AC Revelations: Meet The Creative Director

Alexandre Amancio shares his thoughts on storytelling, gameplay, and how Revelations will set the stage for Assassin's Creed III.

Assassin's Creed Revelations is a big game. It's so big, in fact, that the game has six different Ubisoft studios working together in order to complete the game by this November. Behind those hundreds of Ubisoft employees is a guiding creative principle -- a single person whose job it is to coordinate all the game's creative output into a meaningful whole.

For Revelations, that task falls to Alexandre Amancio. Amancio joined Ubisoft as art director on the gorgeous Far Cry 2, but his interests began to evolve towards design in more recent years. Upon our visit to Ubisoft Montreal, we had the opportunity to sit down with Amancio and talk with him about his most ambitious project to date -- serving as creative director on Assassin's Creed Revelations.

In this first video, Amancio discusses the challenges and rewards of developing the new game. What is involved in coordinating the creative output for a game built in six different places around the world?

In the second of our interviews, Amancio details Ubisoft's storytelling strategy with Assassin's Creed. What makes it a numbered entry or not? What can we expect in Assassin's Creed III?

In our final conversation, Amancio briefly describes his philosophy on narrative and gameplay, and how modern games will increasingly merge the two concepts in a way that no other medium could allow.

  • Sweet

  • always video. why can't you guys post a transcript or something of the interview? not all of us enjoy watching our news.
  • thumbs up

  • Makes me all the more self-conscious about my "uh" count when speaking on record.

  • Six different studios? Wow. At least I know that effort is getting put into this.  As long as this game is longer than Brotherhood, I'm sure I'll like it.

  • ARGH! Can't wait!

  • Great interview. You should do more of these, they are awesome.

  • I hope Desilets hand-picked this guy...
  • That guy is cool i liked how he talked about how he managed the whole project and in the last video he talked about passage which is super cool
  • That's one cool beard.
  • With six different studios, will at least one be working on the PC version? I would so love to be able to play Revelations at the same time as console players... though that IS kind of counter-balanced by the free DLC content that is (usually) shipped with the PC versions, rather than having to buy it like on the consoles...

  • After the interview, I think that AC is in capable hands. Looking forward to see more about the game.
  • awesome sweet video.

  • I admit it I like this guy. I was a little iffy at first because I'm so used to how awesome Patrice was but I think this guy will do a good job he seems to be into it and he seems to know what he's doing so I guess I'll trust him with my favorite franchise of all time.

  • This quickly becoming one of my most anticipated titles of the year. And that's saying a lot.

  • Seems like a smart guy. Can't wait to see what he comes up with in the future.

  • AC Revelations had better be good!

  • If you take out - like, sort of, kind of - you could condense 3 parts into one! ;)
  • Sounds good. But what really has me interested is that Passage game. I have to hunt that badger down.

  • I really enjoy these interview features. Hope you guys keep doing them!
