Spoiled! Portal 2

It almost feels wrong highlighting the finale of Portal 2 when the entirety of the game is near perfect. Few of us in the Game Informer offices rushed to discuss the awesome climax right after beating it. Instead we chatted about memorable puzzles along the way, new gameplay mechanics, and Cave Johnson. Especially Cave Johnson. That doesn't mean that the ending of the game isn't worth spoiling for anyone silly enough not to complete it. Even if you did complete it, I present this video of Ben Reeves and I discussing what we thought about the ending in the great outdoors.

Spoiled Alert!

  • the MOON?!?! how did i not see that coming?!?! that was amazing!!!!

  • Well proof that man has been on the moon...well at least a woman on the moon. Who needs a billion dollar space craft when only thousand dollar portal would work.

  • I actually like the music at the end. I don't think that, given the more serious ending, it was going to stick like Still Alive, but it does a good job of fitting the different nature of Portal 2. They were definitely playing on different feelings from the first game.

  • There was a reference to the cake at one point. There was a door right before you fight GLaDOS that says "GLaDOS emergency shut down and cake dispenser." Was I the only one who couldn't help but feel pity for Wheatley?
  • want you gone was by far as good or even better than still alive. ive listened to it multiple times already. ps. how do you unlock the extras menu?
  • "If I was ever to see her again, do you know what I'd say?"

    "I'm in space."

  • well I already beat portal 2, just waiting for psn to come back up to play through the multiplayer

  • SSPPAAACCCEEEE!!!

That one is the only one I really can see becoming a meme. Too much awesome!

Also when you go to fight GLaDOS there is a sign that says something along the lines of GLaDOS's cake factory. That is the only nod to that I found.

The ending while satisfying, isn't as memorable as Portal 1's ending, though the boss fight was a lot of fun. Also I was bummed like Ben they didn't include more music like they said they were going to.

  • Cara, cara mia bambina... oh my... GlaDOS loves Chell like her daughter!
  • I think the lemon bit has the potential to be huge.
  • Haha! Nice!!!

  • Dont be dissin' the end song. I rushed to iTunes immediately after... and found out it isnt on there yet. :(

Aside from that issue, there is a reference to the cake: A door that says "Emergency GLaDOS shutdown and Cake Dispensary". And SOME people flooded with emotion at the companion cube, as it's the one from the first game, not just a random cube with a heart on it (burn marks).

Other than all that, good discussion. Can't wait for #3! Half hoping Chell's in it.

  • It looks like Tim and Ben escaped from their facility too. I guess killing them was too hard.

  • i will probaly get the game,i will still hate the series i don't if you hate my opinion who cares i can say what i want in the comments.
  • Nice ending!

  • Haha, The Spicy Ben "Street Comedy" Reeves. Very enjoyable. And great job Hanson, your skills are wonderful.

  • I like how they made a nod to the first game by making the companion cube all burnt, because, you know, you MURDERED it. Also, I need the credits song and turret song on my ipod.

  • Haha, The Spicy Ben "Street Comedy" Reeves. Very enjoyable. And great job Hanson, your skills are wonderful. The music throughout the game happens in response to your interaction in the enviroment.

  • COMBUSTIBLE LEMONS!

  • It couldn't have ended any better in my book. I even teared up a bit.
