The lights are on
Did you beat Red Dead Redemption? Did you mean to but just couldn't
do it? Did you skip the game but still want to see and hear what all the
fuss is about? Well, the ending of the game was unforgettable and
should be seen by everyone, so Game Informer is pleased to completely spoil
it for you. Join Matt Bertz and myself as we check out video from
the unforgettable scene and provide our personal reactions. If you
already beat this Western, come along for a closer revisiting of the
surprising turn of events. Spoilers ahead!
Here's some additional set up for the spoiled ending of Red
Dead Redemption. Again... spoilers!:
After abiding by the FBI's wishes and eliminating his past gang
buddies, John Marston is reunited with his wife and child on the family
ranch. A tragic turn inevitably ruins what you're lead to believe is a
happy ending in which Marston bonds with son, wife, and comical uncle.
There's a bonus treat for careful viewers, too. If you squint a
little you can see I grew a handsome cowboy mustache for the occasion.

Cool idea, great game to kick it off. Enjoyed hearing the opinions fellas!
cool concept, keep it up
that final mission has got to be one of the most epic in video games, right up there with Mass Effect 2 as well, it truly fit the western formula and made itself orginal as well, with an ending like this Video games are right up there with movies when it comes to story plot points and conclusions well done
Great new show guys!!! I thought it was one of the most complete games I've ever played because it had a very good ending. Most games don't put that much thought into the ending - epic battle, win, party like 2099 and it's over...
I'm looking forward to seeing what game you spoil next...
I want a sequel involving the son in some way. Maybe revenge, or him getting used like Marston did
Great new feature! Always coming up with cool ideas there, GI. You should do one for all of Chrono Triggers endings. I know it's old-school, but it would still be fun! Also, I wonder how many people are gonna get their feelings hurt after watching this because they didn't see the word SPOIL enough. Don't let the haters get ya down.
you guys talk funny
i finished it in a few days but was really disapointed when jhon died
that isnt the ending...go to blackwater and go to the train station and start the Stranger mission. That is the final mission. also worth 50G...it's called "Remember My Family"
Some of yall are crazy theres nothing wrong with the ending; it completely caught me by suprise
Good addition to the website. Will be waiting for the next installment.
Best. Ending. Ever.
The denouement, the tragic betrayal, the revenge...this one's hard to top. Plus, when you figure in the "I know you" Stranger missions that end on the hilltop with the stranger saying "This is a good spot."
I'd like a sequel or some dlc that put you back in John's shoes, but when he was back with Dutch's gang. Maybe told with Jack as the narrator, played like he's trying to become a writer, use that angle that he "liked his stories". I think that could be really cool.
Watching Marston getting shot up definitely took the air out of me. At first I didn't really think much of John. I think once I crossed into Mexico is when I really started building that relationship. He is easily one of my favorite characters to date and seeing him go down was tough.
Rockstar really got me with the ending though. I don't know how I didn't see it coming. Like you guys said, I thought the guy you kill before going back to your family was the final mission. I didn't even see the simple ranch missions as a sign. I totally blew it when John opened the barn doors to face the FBI. When the game went into dead eye I was still in a "what the hell is going to happen next" stare. I think I only took out maybe one agent haha.
The thing that scared me the most was I was afraid Rockstar was going to pull a Fallout 3. To where the game just ends and you can't continue on. Thankfully they didn't. Playing as an older Jack was really cool and made the overall story that much better for me. I guess you can say they pulled a MGS2 even though I like this Jack.
The whole ending scene happened as the sun was setting for me...so by the end it was night. It had a better effect at night, imo.
I personally loved it. Most games that want a sand box free roaming ending cannot end in such a manner. In fact, I thought quite the opposite of what the ending would be. I thought "in order to play after the credits role, he can't die." I was wrong, huh?
One of the coolest endings that still allow you to play after the game ends that I have experienced. Thumbs up.
@GI what is the song that is playing while Jack and his mother are looking at John's grave? Sounded sad yet in place and soothing/aggravating while they were staring at his coffin. Thanks boys.
