The Eight Most Disappointing Games Of Our Time

Some games get a lot of hype, but not every game can live up to the extraordinary hyperbolic promises dreamed up by marketing teams. Sometimes a game gets over-hyped, and it’s obvious to everyone upon release that the game has metaphorically taken a dump in its pants. This is a list of the top eight games that were supposed to change the world but tripped over their own egos and ended up with humble pie on their face.

  • i think a kid forgot to put on his strap for the wiimote in the first picture

  • for some strange reason its not going to the second page.

  • Huh, I'm slightly surprised Assassin's Creed One isn't up here.  Although, to be fair, that would be better served on a list of overrated games...

  • Yah not all of these are terrible. They were just extremely disappointing. Fable 2 was pretty *** fun it just really disappointed me. The coop sucked nuts when Molyneux said it was going to be awesome.

  • As I've only played Perfect Dark: Zero on this list, I will have to agree with you. It was horrible.

  • I think you should add Alan Wake to this list.  It was definitely NOT a first day purchase, and they could have made it much better.  I was thoroughly disappointed.

  • I think that Soldier of Fortune: Payback deserves a mention. It had the gore effects that old fans loved, but the story and gameplay rendered it one of the worst games ever made to many people. I still find it's pretty fun, but a lot of people can't stand it.

  • Wolverine's Revenge, Red Steel, Lair, and Alpha Protocol should be included.
  • Mod

5'd for being 100% correct about The Twin Snakes' inferiority.

  • Actually, Perfect Dark's multiplayer was the only good thing about the game. It was wildly popular and raved about in plenty of reviews. It was impossible to start a room and not have it full in seconds. It was a really good time and had a hell of a lot more features than most multiplayer games today have....So it is a little unfair to call its multiplayer "unremarkable".

  • There's a lot of games i'd put on that list but not assassins creed. While that game was a big let down it delivered on a lot of levels, it just didn't rise to the occasion. i got burnt on perfect dark zero and prototype but i loved assassins creed because it gave me so much hope for a sequel (that did deliver). you knew it just needed some fixes on missions and plot delivery. Fable 2 would be on my list though, that game was a huge let down for me, it was a good thing fallout 3 released a week later.

  • what about alpha protocol and crackdown

  • I knew Too Human would be on the list. That game sucked

  • Isn't this obvious? 3 words: Enter the Matrix.

  • not playing as snake in MGS2 was a deal breaker for me.

  • Yep, DMC 2 and Perfect Dark were huge letdowns. Too Human is a tough one: I was conscious of it's flaws while playing it, but somehow still had fun in the process. I have yet to figured out how that's possible.

  • I still have hope for Too Human. I believe Silicon Knights truly set up a cool world and story for Too Human but just failed in the gameplay. If Too Human 2 were released with significantly improved gameplay, I believe it might be able redeem the Too Human series the way Red Dead Redemption redeemed the Red Dead series.

  • I'm really surprised that this wasn't used as yet another opportunity to bash Alpha Protocol.

Calling that game a train wreck is putting it mildly.  Obsidian had to take a reputation hit for that piece of garbage.

It makes me question their handling of Fallout: New Vegas & makes me laugh when they say they want to work with the beloved Chrono Trigger Series.

It's not like the game didn't have potential, cause it seemed to appeal to the Mass Effect audience.  Does make you wander if they actually did anything between it's initial release date of October 2009 & when it came out last month.

Honorable Mention on this list, perhaps?

  • don't forget the Legend of Spyro games the Sierra made.those games sucked balls compared to the first three Insomniac games.

  • For me, a big disappointment was Advent Rising. If you remember, that was the game whose plot had been penned by Orson Scott Card and had a full orchestral soundtrack composed by Tommy Tallarico.

The game was heavily hyped and was supposed to be the beginning of a planned trilogy, but the end result was a terd.
