Civilization V Video Interview

With Civ IV being such a complete package, fans were unsurprised but definitely curious when 2K announced that Civilization V was on the way. Our own curiosity has gotten the best of us and so we tracked down Dennis Shirk, the game’s producer to find out what’s up. Anyone who’s a fan of Civilization will be quite curious to find out how they have improved on a game that felt so fulfilling. Shirk talks about the new user interface, modder support, fresh combat approach and even addresses the age-old question of why a spearman can take down a modern tank.

Be sure to check out the GDC 2010 hub page for quick access to more news and hands-on impressions straight from the event in San Francisco, CA.

  • Civ V sounds good. I hope these changes live up to what he's saying because I love those games.

  • The new combat system sounds interesting... maybe without stacks it will be more tactical like chess. Hopefully they'll manage to top the excellent Civ IV.

  • yay

  • I'm really excited for Civ V because I enjoy the idea of something improved over the already excellent experience from Civ IV.

  • civ 5 is hopefully more complex than civ 4, they better not dumb it down, there's a thing called an instruction booklet

  • they traded spooks voice over for the black guy from mass effect :p

  • Kinda wish Sid had more to do with it than just his name on the box...

This game is the reason I have to buy a new PC this year.

  • crap, i was hoping it would be on xbox 360 because my pc is very very bad. i didnt like how the civ for 360 was more cartoony or more childish than civ 4. well i used to love playing the old civs while my pc still could.

  • Maybe it's just me, but his face was completely out of sync with his voice the whole video.

Was he saying that the modding community will actually be integrated with the game? That sounds like some serious potential for greatness.

Also, I hope it won't be too high end for my "old" desktop. Kotaku said they are making it compatible with an extremely wide range of computer specs, so I'm hopeful it will work out, but it would really suck if I had to buy a new PC for it.

  • im gettng  a new computer for this
