343 Industries: Managing The Halo Franchise

While Bungie handles the creation of the Halo video games, the universe surrounding these titles eventually grew too large to be managed by only one team. This led to the creation of 343 Industries, located near the Bungie studios in Redmond, Washington.

As one of the most successful new franchises of the last decade, Halo has expanded beyond gaming into new forms of media. Some gamers may stick with the basic retail package of the video games, but others delve deeper into the lore and mythology that was introduced back in 2001. For the latter group, there are novels, action figures, a new anime series, and more if they wish to learn more about the Spartans and their war with the Covenant.

Take a look at the video below to hear 343's Frank O'Connor, Josh Holmes, and Bonnie Ross discuss what their team does for the franchise and how this new venture came to be.

  • First!

  • Cool video!

  • I hate people who say first, I love 343 studios

  • 5 bucks to anyone who is sick of halo.  how many times can you repackage halo 2 and call it somthing else with new maps.

  • KittenZIlla,  How many games are the same game but repackaged, but no one complains about them.  Aka Call of Duty.  What game are they on... Technically Six?  Any sports game?  Halos Technically on on its 4th game and its their last one.  ODST does not count, it was an expansion.

    Back on subject.

STOP TEASING US WITH THESEI NTERVEIW STORIES I WANT REACH INFO!

  • Let's hear more about Reach! (even though any Bungie news is interesting news)

Also, I would like to add that people who say "first" are my worst enemies (only if they say that and nothing else, like Christian)

  • wtf give halo:reach information not this *** we dont care about you *** idiots

*** game informer wtf is wrong with you, let us waith for *** hours and give this crap

*** you and your magazine i hope you go bankrupt

  • cool

  • Staff

Any guesses as to what 343 stands for?

  • 343 is the area code for Ontario, Canada :P

  • or 343 guilty spark

  • Good interview.  It's great to see the people behind the franchises we know and love.  I do appreciate what they do even though I'm not the kind of Halo fan who buys all of the merchandise.

  • @Fatkid: I totally agree with u dude.

We havent seen anything on Reach and that is specifically what u promised to bring throughout january. Do you guys really want to accociate the element of untrust with your name? If not i suggest u bring a double load of Reach news for the next few weeks. As well as free mag subscriptions to all bronze-level members. (Almost there!)

  • I'm hoping Reach has some new gameplay mechanics.  I really enjoyed Halo 3 but ODST was weak.

  • That's really cool! I can't wait for the Reach beta!

  • lol @ kittenkilla, isn't that the definition of CoD? Nice video but I wish you guys were actually reporting on more Halo Reach coverage.

  • Kind of hinting at a game about the forunner. Nice video.

  • Reiner, 343 is seven to the third power. Bungie loves the number seven (they use it a lot), and they probably like the number three as well. Seven and three are both known as "holy" numbers. There's probably something in the game it's going to pertain to (like the Forunner planet), but I think that's Bungies real reason for using it. To Thedeadestspace, the Ontario area code only happened a few years ago from what I can tell, so that's probably not related.

  • i still like halo but only because modern warfare 2 is full of 10 yr. old squeaky voiced campers.

  • every body is mad that there is no reach info, but what about the article in the new issue, did I get it early or something.
