hostbusters seemed like a sure thing for Sierra Vivendi when it was announced it last year. Ghostbusters: The Video Game featured the writing and voice talents from most of the original film’s cast, with Dan Akyroyd calling it an unofficial Ghostbusters 3. Unfortunately, it was one of the casualties from the Activision Blizzard acquisition, and its future became hazy.
Well, Atari has come to save the day. The company announced today that
it will be publishing Ghostbusters, which is on schedule for a 2009 release. That’s a bit later than its original Halloween 2008 date, but it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the first flick. Has it really been that long? Ouch.
“Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to Atari’s global line-up in 2009,” said Phil Harrison, President of Infogrames Entertainment, the parent company of Atari. “The title has built considerable anticipation and excitement among game fans for its high quality action and all-out mayhem. There’s no more thrilling Ghostbusting experience to be had, short of building your own proton pack.”
The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC, PS2 and DS.
