THQ Announces New Nickelodeon Lineup

oday THQ announced their upcoming video-game lineup with their long time partner Nickelodeon. Approaching releases include The Naked Brothers Band: The Video Game and Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition. The Naked Brothers Band title is based off a popular Nickelodeon television show that chronicles the life of Nat and Alex Wolff and their experiences as the front of a kids’ rock band. The SpongeBob title brings together one of Nickelodeons most popular characters with the popular Drawn to Life Nintendo DS game which was released last year. In the game, players can use their creativity to populate Bikini Bottom by drawing their own characters. THQ and Nickelodeon also plan on putting out games based on TV shows Tak and the Power of Juju, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Back at the Barnyard. A new Nicktoons installment is also in the works.

Jim Huntley, the director of global brand management for THQ explained their position as a family friendly gaming entity. "With the enormous popularity of Wii and DS coupled with our exceptionally diverse portfolio of Nickelodeon-based games, THQ continues to lead in family entertainment. Featuring new forms of gameplay such as the music-based The Naked Brothers Band and the drawing-based Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition, we expect our upcoming titles to offer completely new ways for families to play together."

The partnership between Nickelodeon and THQ has been profitable to say the least. So far the duo have over $1 billion dollars in sales and 50 million units under their belt. Expect the games in the Nickelodeon / THQ portfolio to make an appearance this fall for the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo DS.
